All motorists know about the existence of the gearbox in the car. Most of the beginning drivers from the beginning of training in a driving school faced only with the "automatic machine". According to many, it is more convenient to handle. But when such drivers are transplanted to a machine with a mechanical box, problems begin. Not everyone knows how to correctly switch gears on mechanics.

What is the gearbox

The gearbox is a mechanical unit that distributes the mechanical energy of the engine to the driving axles of the vehicle. On passenger cars, in most cases manual boxes of four, five and six stages are installed. There are checkpoints and with a lot of gear, but they are usually completed with construction equipment and special vehicles.

To facilitate the inclusion of the gears between the engine and the box, there is a clutch. The fact is that the crankshaft of the engine rotates continuously, and the primary shaft of the box is connected to the crankshaft. To enter the gears of this or that speed into engagement, it is necessary to stop the rotation of the shaft. To do this, the car is clutch pedal, when you press on which the gearbox for a while is disconnected from the engine. And it is with the clutch pedal being pressed that the gearshift begins at the mechanic.

The order of actions when starting from a place on the machine with manual transmission

In fact, there is nothing difficult in moving a car with a mechanical box. In this case, it should be borne in mind that if the "automatic" behind the engine speed is monitored by electronics, then in the case of a mechanical box, the driver himself will have to "listen" to the engine.

Before you understand how to properly switch gears on the mechanic, you need to build a car from the spot and give it acceleration. To do this, follow the steps in the following order:

  1. Make sure that the gearshift lever is in neutral and start the engine.
  2. Squeeze out the clutch pedal and wait a few seconds. The pedal must be pressed to the limit, that is, to the polish.
  3. A smooth, but clear movement to include the first gear. It is smooth, not with force and jerk. In all modern boxes, no effort is required. The lever moves easily, the transmissions are switched on freely and clearly.
  4. Smoothly release the clutch pedal, just gently pressing the accelerator pedal. Do not immediately give "gas to failure." The machine just jerks and stalls. To tighten with pressing also it is not necessary. The engine may not have enough speed to accelerate the car.

How to switch gears on mechanics in motion

Inexperienced drivers often forget to follow the readings of the speedometer. As a result, they lag behind with switching the transmission to a higher one. If you listen carefully to the car, it will tell you when to switch to another speed. But this experience comes with time. In the meantime, "the speedometer will help you." You should remember how to correctly switch gears on mechanics:

  • The 1st gear is from 0 to 15 km / h. In this transfer, you need to get off the ground and go through the so-called "start phase", in which the car collects the initial acceleration. As soon as the arrow of the speedometer reached the mark of 15 km / h, you should switch to the next gear.
  • 2nd gear - from 15 to 30 km / h. In this transfer, the car continues to gain acceleration. It is not cruising speed, but in the second gear it is possible to drive through areas with a complex terrain. As soon as the car accelerated to 30 km / h, switch to the next gear.
  • 3rd gear - from 30 to 45 km / hour. At this speed, most often move in a city stream. But if the car leaves on a high-speed line it is necessary to be switched to a higher gear.
  • 4th gear - from 45 km / hour. On a four-speed box this transmission is cruising speed. If the gearbox has more stages, then the transition to them is also carried out in order of priority, when the car reaches a certain speed.

Now directly on how to properly switch gears on the mechanic. First, do not hurry. The procedure is simple, and you need to learn it as "Our Father": squeeze the clutch, turn on the speed, release the clutch, press "gas". And in any case, do not mix it up!
