How to multiply cuttings clematis at home in the country?

Clematis - a fairly young garden culture, rapidly gaining popularity among gardeners. This is a fairly unpretentious plant. With proper care can enjoy its flowering until the fall. Clematis includes a variety of varieties. Such plants are ideal for decorating arbours or pergolas in the suburban area.

Cultivating clematis, sooner or later each grower begins to wonder about the increase in the number of plants. How to propagate? Cuttings clematis bred most often. This method is most popular.

Consider all the existing options for how to multiply clematis:

• cuttings;
• division of the bush;
• Layering.

Method number 1: how to propagate by cuttings

Clematis, from which the cuttings will be cut, must necessarily be healthy, otherwise the transplanted processes will also be sick and may simply not settle down in a new place. Cuttings are best cut in the period when buds begin to form.

Usually shoots are separated, which are then cut into cuttings: it is enough that they have one kidney. For rapid rooting it is desirable to use special preparations.

Method number 2: how to multiply by dividing the bush

Unlike the plant used in the first method (as propagated by cuttings), clematis, which is diluted by dividing the bush, must be between 4 and 6 years old. Plants that are more than years old will be very difficult to divide because of the powerful root system.

Transplantation is carried out in autumn or spring. The old bush is excavated, divided into several parts and planted in new places. You can dig a bush partially and separate the necessary part with roots.

Method number 3: how to multiply by layers

It is not a laborious way to breed clematis. In the spring (you can also apply this option in the fall), small grooves are drilled from the bush to a depth of 10 cm. In them, side shoots are laid, fixed in the ground and sprinkled with earth. It is desirable to water the water well. And in any case, do not allow plants to dry out in a hot period. Transplant new clematis to a permanent place can be in a year.

Some kinds of clematis can be propagated by seeds. This method is relevant for small-flowered species. Varietal large-color hybrids do not propagate by seeds, because new seedlings do not preserve the properties of the mother plant. Therefore, most often, clematis is propagated by green cuttings.

Despite the fact that these flowers have become popular in Russia relatively recently, they are each day winning more and more love among gardeners. And this is not surprising. The simplicity of care and the extraordinary beauty of flowers plus unpretentiousness, the adaptability of plants to withstand the severe Russian winters make clematis every year more popular, especially since bushes do not require transplantation and can grow up to 30 years in one place.

And if there was a question "how to multiply," clematis cuttings, as we found out, very simply. And if a friend or neighbor smells of such a beautiful flower with bright colors, then maybe we should ask them for a small process.
