How to mix a cocktail "Long Island"

"Long Island" - a famous American cocktail, whose history goes back to the times of the dry law, which was adopted in the United States in the 20s of the last century.
Alcoholic beverages were outlawed, but New York bartenders found a way out of the situation - they made a mixture that, by the way, is very strong in percentage of alcohol, and disguised it as an ordinary glass of cold black tea. After all, the present, the full name of the cocktail - "Long Island Ice Tea" (Long Island Ice Tea) and is translated from English: "Long Island, ice tea." Served in a tall glass filled to the top with ice, this mix of a large variety of alcohol is topped up with Coca-Cola so that you really do not think it's a beverage outlawed.

How to mix cocktail

To feel like a hero of the films about the Great Depression and the American Dream, you will need the following ingredients for "Long Island":

- 30ml. White rum, best of all Baccardi;
- 30ml. Gin;
- 30 ml. Good vodka;
- 30ml. Tequila;
- 30 ml. Liquor Triple Sec (Triple Sec) or Cointreau (Cointreau);
- 60 ml. Lime or lemon, it is better to take freshly squeezed;
- 30ml. Conventional sugar syrup;
- Coca-Cola (or soda water, sprite, Pepsi and other soda);
- lemon slice for decoration.

Mix all the components of the cocktail, except for Coca-Cola, in a shaker, and pour into the largest cocktail glass filled with ice. Top up with a carbonated drink of your choice and stir well with a stick. In conclusion, a piece of lemon can be attached to the edge of the glass. Be careful in using the mix of "Long Island", because, despite its sweet and sour taste and sufficient ease in the process of drinking, it contains a shock dose of alcohol. For those who follow a diet, it will be useful to know that the energy value of the portion is about 300 kcal. However, it can be slightly reduced by adding instead of the usual "Coca-Cola Light" and boiling sugar syrup using sugar replacers. By the way, the very first cocktail recipe had whiskey and maple syrup, liqueurs appeared already in later, later versions. But, nevertheless, the American Barmen Association considers the above-mentioned method of preparation to be classic and standard.

A variation of the Long Island cocktail recipe with a lower alcohol content

To make the drink even more tasty and with fruity notes, you can slightly diversify its composition and prepare the so-called radioactive version of a cocktail of 30 ml. Any raspberry liquor (you can take "Chambord" - Chambord), 30 ml. Melon liquor, usually take "Midori", 30ml. Coconut liquor "Malibu", 30ml. "Cointreau" or liquor "Triple Sec", 30ml. Gin, 30 ml. Rum, 30 ml. Vodka and the same amount of tequila. Mix all the ingredients in a shaker, pour into a tall glass filled with ice, and top up with Coca-Cola. A slice of lemon on the side of the glass will be decorated with "Long Island", a photo of which you can see on the left. Attention, the strength of the contents is 31 degrees, and although it is slightly less than in the classical version because of the higher content of liqueurs, the drink should still be consumed in reasonable quantities.
