How to make the background white in Photoshop: instructions for beginners

Today you will learn how to make a background white in Photoshop. This can come in handy when you have a great photo with your image, but there is an unwanted background on it. Of course, you can use not only white color, but also any other that you like best. The difficulty of this lesson is not in choosing the hue of paint, but in getting rid of the unwanted background. We will consider several options for this operation. I'll try to explain as simply as possible how to make the background white in Photoshop.

Initial information

Before describing the immediate instructions, you first need to understand why you can not use only one of them. The fact is that the photos have their own individual background. Therefore, you can never foresee what will be in the background in your picture. A white background for a photo can be assigned by several combined methods. Which method is suitable for your picture, it's up to you. If you can not pinpoint, then use them all in order.

1st method

The easiest way is to use the fill tool (hotkey G). Select the desired color through the palette and click on the area you want to paint over. This method is not suitable if there are many small details in the background. Then you have to paint each part separately. This can take a lot of precious time. Plus, there can always be unpainted parts. Then you have to manually paint them using the eraser (E) or the brush tool (B).

2nd method

This method is suitable if the background consists of a uniform color or a gradient. Then the usual pouring will be powerless. But the "corrective" layers come to the rescue. From the bottom, in the layers panel, there is an additional menu where there is a button with a tool tip "creates an adjustment layer or a fill layer". Click on it and find the item "curves". A new window opens before us, where we need to select the eyedropper with a quick tip "sample image to set the white point". After that, click the left mouse button on the background and the background becomes white. But this method is not ideal, because because of it in some cases the main image changes. So be careful.

3rd method

And finally, the most universal method. With it, you can specify any background, for example a multicolored or black and white background. But unlike the previously stated methods, you have to work here manually. The essence of this method is to separate the main image from the background and, accordingly, completely remove the background. You can do this using any selection tool, such as a pen (P). This tool allows you to accurately determine the selected area. Once you connect the first and last points, you need to click on the LMB along the path and select "Form the selected area". Radius of feathering choose arbitrarily, depending on the picture. Next, you need to invert the selection. To do this, select any selection tool, click on the PCM on the image and find the "Inverted Selection".
