"Old paper" in "Photoshop": instruction for beginners

Today we will consider a very interesting effect - "old paper". You can apply it everywhere - for example, to decorate an e-mail or to create an exotic background for a photo. Of course, you can find already finished image with the same background and use it. But we will independently produce an interesting image using the "old paper" effect. "Photoshop" in this case will be the only means that we need.

Instructions

Your attention is offered a step-by-step instruction for creating this effect. The old paper, which we will try to depict with the help of modern technologies, was used in ancient writings. For work, you can use any version of Photoshop. This manual is designed for users who do not have much experience with this resource. Therefore, this information is likely to be uninteresting to experienced users.

  1. Create a new image with an arbitrary size. Use the Rectangular Area tool (M) to make a selection. It will also designate contours for the future sheet with old paper.
  2. The selected area will be filled in with any color. For this operation, use the Fill tool (G). Once this area has found its color, deselect it with the "Ctrl + D" key combination.
  3. Apply a filter that will create a "torn paper" effect. To do this, open the "Filters" item (at the top of the program) and look for the "Filter Gallery" item. Here we find the category "Strokes" and the effect "Spraying". Set the following values: spray radius - 10; Mitigation - 5. Click "Ok".
  4. Delete the background. To do this, use the Magic Wand tool. Click the left mouse button on the area created in the second stage. So we have formed a dedicated area. Now invert the selection, right-click on the selected area, and find the item "Inversion". Press the "DEL" key. After these actions, the background should disappear . As a result, there is an empty space.
  5. We reuse the filter that was used in the third step. Only with other values: the spraying radius is 20; Softening - 15.
  6. Again, remove the background. We repeat all the steps starting with step 4.
  7. At this stage, the image with the effect of "old paper" is almost ready. It remains to add a few nuances. In the context menu we are looking for the item "Overlay parameters". In the new window, we find the Overlay Color tab. Here we choose the color. We turn on the "Internal Shadow" item. Enter the following values: type of overlapping - multiplication; black color; Opacity - 45%; The offset is 0; Size - 50. Turn on the "External Shadow", change only the "Size" parameter, where we put the number 9.

additional information

You can place an image with this effect on the background. "Old paper" with its outline may vary depending on the color selected. If you used other values, you can get a completely different effect.

Conclusion

An image with the effect of "old paper", manufactured according to the instructions given, can be applied anywhere, wherever you wish.
