Ondulin - installation and operation

The history of ondulin began back in 1944. Then the Frenchman Gaston Gromier created a company for the production of bituminous sheets. But then no one could have foreseen that this building material would become so popular.

Ondulin, of course, is a more modern kind of bituminous sheets. It is made using advanced technologies. Cellulose fibers are saturated with bitumen, rubber and mineral pigments under the influence of high temperature. When cutting plates, you can use an ordinary hacksaw for wood, which also distinguishes ondulin. Its installation is very simple.

The sheets have a wavy form, similar to the one that distinguishes slate. However, if you compare the ondulin with the slate, in favor of the first says the fact that it is much easier. Standard sheet size of 2 to 0.96 m has a weight of only 6.5 kilograms. When building a roof, this is of great importance.

Basic installation requirements:

The cladding should be carried out in this plan very qualitatively. For aligning the beams and respecting their parallelism, it is best to use a simple wooden bar of a certain length.

Installation of the roof of the ondulin is also possible on a continuous crate. When cutting, it is best to mark the sheets with a simple pencil and ruler. You can use a slab of a certain length.

How to properly lay the sheets

Begin the installation from below, from the eaves. The sheets are lapped. Between the rows he must be at least 30 centimeters. Determine the width of the overlap between the two slabs will help the wavy form that distinguishes the ondulin. The installation is done so that one plate goes into the second one by two waves. Mounting is done with the help of nails or screws.

In the complete set, except for sheets, the skating element is delivered. To the ridge the plates are fastened by driving nails into each wave. A ridge element is superimposed on top and is also nailed. Aprons pipes, which are also included in the kit, must be carefully fixed, and the seams are treated with sealant.
