It is elastic and moderately dense and is compulsory for both professionals and amateurs of track and field athletics, aikido, sambo, karate, judo, other martial arts and, of course, artistic and athletic gymnastics. In children's sports sections tatami creates psychological comfort of the group, raising the level of self-confidence of young athletes.

A number of unique properties of tatami distinguish it among a variety of floor decks and mats, due to which it is often done even at home. The advantages of tatami include the following:

  • No odor, which makes the operation of the coating harmless;

  • Increased impact resistance and noise insulation;

How to make tatami for martial arts

For the assembly you will need:

  • Strong (if possible kapron) rope;
  • scissors;
  • Sports mats (the size is selected individually for your request);
  • PVC coating.

The rope is cut into pieces that are 10-15 cm longer than the side of the wrestling carpet (as a rule, the covering has the shape of a square). We lay the pieces in the form of a grid on the floor. We place them perpendicular to each other, at a distance of 50 cm from each other along the plane. Then lay the mats (standard - 1x2 m in size). The next step is to carefully stretch the PVC coating from the middle of the mats. Align. To the special eyelets on the PVC coating we tie the pieces of rope from each side, evenly stretching the canvas along the entire perimeter. After a day, the coating is completely leveled. Done!

How to make tatami: we make the bed with our own hands

For a finished mattress with a size of 160x200 m you need boards:

  • 2 pieces in length 160 and 168 cm;
  • 2 pieces of 208 cm.

Operating procedure

On the front panel (208 cm long board) make a cut of 45 degrees. Assemble the base on the corners, whose role is played by the legs, in order to obtain an ideally square shape.

For this purpose, the bar is cut into four segments with a length of 30 cm. These will be the legs. Then markup is performed. To do this, note the middle on each leg. Use for convenience corner. On each of them, cut an angle of 4 cm, i.e. the width of the board, so that it lies in this recess.

Grind all the details by machine. Then assembly is performed. For this:

  • Twist the structure with screws;
  • From the inside level with the legs fix the bar, which should support the rack bottom;
  • Fix the iron plates with bolts 2 to support the middle rail;
  • A backboard of a fiberboard of the correct size is applied to the rear beam of tatami;
  • Grab it under the bottom with screws so that it is possible to slightly bend the beam to insert the leatherette;
  • Lay foam rubber, which must be secured from the bottom edge;
  • Top leatherette on top;
  • Fix it on the back to the staples with a construction stapler.

At the end of the assembly, the back of the backrest is closed with a sheet of plywood and fixed with short screws with a wide bonnet.

Dye the bed and cover with varnish.

Care of mats

  • Store only in a horizontal position;
  • Clean the surfaces with a damp cloth and cleaners without chlorine;
  • Do not allow temperature changes during transportation and transportation, as this adversely affects the surface of the mat, as well as direct sunlight;
  • Overheating leads to deformation of tatami.
