How to level the walls with your hands using dry plaster

Nowadays, almost all people understand the importance of quality repairs. A beautiful and well-renovated apartment not only pleases the eye, but also shows the social status of its owner. The main problem in the repair of apartments in old houses is the decoration and repair of walls and ceilings.

The ideal and simple solution is dry plaster: the finishing of ceilings and walls with casing sheets made of this material is used on almost all internal surfaces. But how to level the walls with your own hands with the help of dry plaster, if you simply do not have experience of such work? Do not worry: there is nothing terrible in this work.

To concrete and stone planes, plaster sheets are glued with building glue mixtures or mastic. Before work, remove the old damaged coating entirely (if any) by soaking the walls with water or steaming with special building steam generators. Dried old wallpaper can be removed with water and a construction iron. In the same way, the old oil paint is removed. It is important to understand that the overhaul of apartments implies thorough preparation of all surfaces to be repaired. Since it is impossible to level the walls independently from the first time, you can practice on some not very important sites (for example, in the closet).

Then the construction trowel is molded from the mastic by the size of a sheet of dry plaster, with a diameter of up to 15 centimeters, using a 40x40 cm scheme. The area of the glued surface of the sheet should be not less than 10% of the total, since otherwise the dry plaster sheet will be Keep very unreliable. The back side of the sheet is attached to a prepared wall, pressed flat with a wooden strip, the surface of which must be clean and well polished. Once again we remind you that before you level the walls with plaster, it is important to thoroughly clean them! If there is not, then plaster can simply fall away.

Stitches in the joints of the sheets are sealed with plaster mastic, putty or ready-made factory mixes, which are better to buy in specialized construction shops. Of course, if you have the appropriate experience, you can make them yourself. However, once again it is worth to say that before you level the walls with your own hands, it is useful to experiment with small amounts of material, since later it can be very painful for the time and money spent. After grasping and drying, the seams are rubbed with a sandpaper, the width of the seams can be no more than 0.6 cm. If the seams are wider, they will not only not be of special beauty, but they will only have to be remembered about strength.

The unevenness of the edges in the cut places of the sheets is smoothed out and cleaned. Walls are sheathed from corners in the direction of the door and window openings. Do not forget that before you level the walls with your own hands, it does not hurt to take care of and even the ceiling. This is due to the fact that the first sheet of dry plaster should adhere well to the ceiling and adjacent walls, and do not forget about the edges for closing the plinth and clypeus. Finishing of window and door openings is completed with the remaining material after covering all surfaces. This method of finishing with the use of dry plaster is the most simple and economical.

We hope you learned how to level the walls with your own hands!
