How to free up space on C?

I've been using the computer for a long time and, I would say, confident enough. I have to work. And recently I began to notice that more and more people are turning to me for advice. Questions at friends arise different: someone can not open the photos, someone does not load the song they like, and somebody can not customize the desktop.

All this is trivial and quickly solved.

But just recently, a friend called back with the question of how to free up space on the C drive. All my attempts to clarify the situation in the phone mode suffered a crushing fiasco. Whether that day my oratorical abilities were dozing, or the person was not very clever, I do not know. But there was an idea to write this article, having broken it preliminary into three parts.

Section 1. Why do I need to free up space on C? What is a C drive?

Typically, those who are familiar with the computer relatively recently, are often interested in why the names of disks start with the letter "C", where the "A" and "B" disappeared? Old residents, in turn, will answer that once the first two letters of the Latin alphabet were called disk drives, specifically designed to allow any user to read information from two floppy disks of different capacities.

Now these media do not apply. They are obsolete and have lost their relevance, they are no longer used, but in order not to cause confusion, the letters "A" and "B" are simply not used in the names.

Technically, no one can prohibit the user from calling the disks on his computer as he wishes, but in most cases the third letter of the alphabet, "C", is assigned to the system disk on which the operating system data and directories of the default programs are stored.

Simply put, this is the heart and brain of your device. They need, respectively, to protect and not to delete incomprehensible or unfamiliar folders, without previously understanding the background of their occurrence and scope.

Section 2. How to free up space on C? In which case does this need arise?

I propose to consider several reasons for this problem. Experts argue that there are several reasons for the system disk overflow, and, consequently, ways to safely free up space on the user disk.

First of all, you need to keep in mind that everything you download from the Internet (music, images, movies, games and just documents) is stored by default on the C drive.

Reason 1.

Very often, in order to save time, in the subsequent search we leave the downloaded materials directly on the desktop. This is just what is done and is not recommended. Why? Because the latter is just on the system disk. Look at your desktop. Are there many shortcuts, folders and files? Enough? So, soon your device will ask you to free up space or simply start working very slowly.

Reason 2.

Have you ever heard of temporary files? This is a kind of "splinters" of various kinds of computer programs, the number of which is constantly growing. They also have the ability to "clog" our disk space, "stealing" precious megabytes of memory.

Reason 3.

It happens that after working with a particular program or playing a game, we come to the conclusion that we no longer need it. We delete and safely forget about its existence, not paying attention to the fact that some fragments of the application still managed to remain in the memory of the computer. In this case, the removal is performed either manually or with the help of certain specialized programs.

Section 3. How to free up disk space C. Ways to solve the problem.

Use CCleaner. Do not worry about the fact that you do not have enough knowledge to use it. This free application not only does not take up much space, only 3.5 MB, but it's easy to use. Install it on your computer. Start and go to the section called Cleanup. When you go to the "Windows" tab, check the boxes just opposite the items you want to delete.

Immediately I would like to warn that the interface CCleaner can boast of the presence of special protective functions, and therefore, you can not exactly hurt your computer.

After clicking on the "Analysis" option, the application will show you how many megabytes will be released when the information you have marked is deleted.

Click "Clear". In general, according to experts, such procedures should be carried out at least once a month, rather than waiting for the urgency of the question of how to free up space on the C drive.

You can also use a special Windows program. In order to start it, you need to right-click on the required C drive, and in the opened menu select the "Properties" and "Disk Cleanup" items. After analyzing the information, put the appropriate checkboxes, and then press the "OK" button. The cleaning process will be started.
