How to do fine tuning in Windows 10: tricks and tips

In the new Windows 10 OS, the system setup features are such that they are both very simple and complex enough. Many users, especially when switching to the "top ten" from the seventh version, to understand the fine-tuning is not so simple. Nevertheless, some tips and tips can still be given.

Tweaking Windows 10 during the installation phase

Start changing the settings for yourself and disable some of the unnecessary components offered by the system, you can still at the installation stage. This does not apply to the upgrade in the form of the Technical Preview version, but purely "clean" installation.

In the process of following the instructions of the "Wizard" of Windows 10 installation, prompts on fine tuning are given out at each stage of the process. This is the first part of system customization. The only problem is that many users on them often just do not pay attention, considering that the parameters set by default will work optimally. This is not true. All the same, then you will have to rebuild the system, because it has too many services and background processes by default, which are not necessary for the normal user.

When installing Windows 10, the fine-tuning of the system manifests itself in the first stages. So, for example, when the window for describing the speed increase appears, from below there is a noticeable link for setting parameters, on which you can see several main sections.

Here you can turn off the personalization of voice input settings, send information to Microsoft about keyboard or handwriting input (supposedly for the purpose of improving the recognition platform), use of the recipient ID and permission to request a user's location.

At the next stage in the browser settings from all that is presented in the list, you can leave only the Smartscreen service, although by and large it can be disabled. Thus, even during the installation, geolocation and telemetry (built-in shadowing Windows 10) are easily turned off.

Tweaking Windows 10: What you can disable

Now let's see what can be done in the installed system, if for some reason during the installation of the system some settings were ignored. All that you should disable, you can list for a long time, but some elements stand out:

  • Confidentiality services;
  • Unnecessary processes in startup, starting with the system;
  • Telemetry (if it was not disabled);
  • Unused system components;
  • A firewall (optional);
  • visual effects;
  • Additional panels and utilities installed for some types of equipment.

The simplest privacy settings

In Windows 10, fine tuning should begin with privacy settings, because many processes and services load the system too much, working in the background.

To change the settings, enter the corresponding menu from the options section, which is located in the main menu "Start". Here, in the general settings and location sections, you must disable everything (this is the shadowing settings - telemetry and user location).

Further in the menu of voice and handwriting we use the stop button for learning. In the camera section, you can specify applications that will have access to it (for example, Skype).

In the reviews and diagnostics section, you should set the mode in which the request will never be made. It is also recommended to analyze programs that can receive information and send notifications without the user's knowledge in the background (section of background applications).

Startup items

For Windows 10, fine tuning is unthinkable without deactivating a huge number of background processes. As in any other system, the configuration is accessed using the msconfig command, which is entered in the Run console (Win + R).

Here it is necessary to disable all startup items, and if you have the necessary knowledge, go to the services tab and deactivate everything that is not needed in the work.

Unused Windows Components

Unfortunately, by default the system offers the user too many unclaimed features and modules that are in the active state.

For Windows 10, fine-tuning means entering the programs and components section from the Control Panel (you can call it using the control command from the Run menu) and go directly to the corresponding menu on the left.

Here you need to be neat and disable only what you know. For example, if the system does not have an installed printer, why keep an active print service? If you do not plan to use virtual machines on the local computer terminal, you can turn off the Hyper-V service. In the case where the screen does not support the touchscreen, the tablet mode, respectively, is also not needed.

Other components

Fine tuning audio (sound) on Windows 10 is done almost exactly as in other systems, however, if there are installed virtual devices, the "dozen" sometimes can make the wrong choice for playback by default.

Therefore, it is recommended to enter the corresponding section in the "Control Panel" or use the context menu, which is caused by the right click on the volume icon in the system tray, and go to the parameters of the playback device. Here you need to install the speakers, not the virtual device. In addition, when changing sound schemes it is advisable to use some standard ones, because if the same laptop does not support 5.1 circuit or it is impossible to connect so many speakers to it, why should it be used?

In passing, you can remove additional panels for the same Realtek High Definition Audio cards, unless the user is working with sound on a professional level.

Optimization with third-party tools

But in most cases all these processes take a lot of time and require certain knowledge. In order not to dig into the settings, you can use automated utilities that will cope with this practically without user intervention.

Among the most powerful and popular are the following:

  • Windows 10 Manager.
  • Ultimate Tweaker.
  • Winaero Tweaker and many others.

In such utilities, you can disable almost any element. You just need to check the required parameters and save the changes. But it is better to use the recommendations of the programs themselves, which, based on the analysis, offer to create a working configuration that is the most suitable and safe for a particular computer system.

The result

Additionally, you can remove the visual effects involved, change the power plan, completely disable the firewall (if you have a powerful antivirus package), and so on.

As for the feasibility of disabling all the above-described elements, most users do not raise questions. Judging by the feedback, the system really starts to work much faster, even on computers and laptops with a configuration that meets the minimum requirements of "tens". Even all of what was mentioned above is not all that can be squeezed out of optimizing Windows 10. These are just the basic elements.
