How is the carburetor engine power system?

What is the carburetor power supply system? This system is designed for storing and supplying fuel, filtering air, preparing a fuel-air mixture and feeding it to the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The amount of this mixture depends on the particular mode of operation of the vehicle. In today's article, we would like to pay attention to carburetor cars, which always have gasoline.

The power supply system for carburetor engines consists of the following parts:

  • Fuel tank.
  • Fuel pipelines.
  • Filters for cleaning gasoline.
  • Air filters.
  • Carburetor.

The fuel tank is a volumetric metal container. As a rule, cars are equipped with petrol tanks for 40-60 liters. This device is installed in the rear of the machine, and from it leaves an opening for refueling and supplying gasoline along fuel lines. The liquid is poured through a special throat. This is a small tube, which at the end has a plastic and metal cover. Some models of gas tanks have a special hole for fuel drainage. It is located at the bottom of the tank. This hole is not designed to make it easier for a neighbor to steal gasoline, but in order to eliminate the garbage, water and sediment accumulated there. Since fuel at our gas stations is of "ideal" quality, this lorry is used very often by car enthusiasts.

Carburetor engine power system operation

Before the gasoline enters the combustion chamber, it passes several stages of purification in the fuel filter. As a rule, modern cars are equipped with 1 or 2 such tools. The scheme of the carburetor engine supply system also includes many small parts. One of them is a float with a rheostat, which measures the level of the remaining gasoline in the tank and displays information on the panel.

After the gasoline has passed the purification phase, it goes further along the fuel line (it is located under the bottom) to the pump. This is one of the most important elements, without which the carburetor engine power system simply would not exist. He pumps petrol on the fuel line, and when the fuel is mixed with air, the finished mixture enters the engine chamber. The pump itself is mechanical and electronic. But as carburettor cars appeared much earlier than injector cars, they are exclusively equipped with mechanical devices. Such a pump includes the following elements:

  1. Housing.
  2. Inlet and outlet valves.
  3. The mesh filter.
  4. Spring-loaded diaphragm with drive mechanism.

Depending on the year of manufacture and brand of the vehicle, the injection pump can be driven by an eccentric, which is located on the drive shaft of the second pump (oil), or an eccentric placed on the camshaft. In both cases, this part shakes the actuator lever, which acts on the rod. As a result, the carburetor power supply system pumps petrol from fuel lines to the combustion chamber.
