CFNA (engine): characteristics, features, problems

Cars of German manufacture are famous for their reliability, high-quality assembly, durability. They gained popularity all over the world due to impressive technical characteristics, in the formation of which the special place is occupied by power plants, among which the CFNA, a 1.6 liter engine, is quite modern and in demand to this day.

Production

CNFA is a four-cylinder in-line petrol engine with 16 valves, a distributed fuel injection system. One of the features of the model is the chain- gas distribution mechanism DOHC - in the cylinder head there are now two camshafts.

Currently, two main modifications of this plant are available on the market - capacities of 105 and 85 hp, as well as belt drive timing. Engine design

Volkswagen did not plan to introduce completely new elements in the development of the unit - the engine turned out to be quite ordinary, but some novelties are still present.

But the main thing in the engine is the block of cylinders. It is made of light alloy aluminum, which simultaneously reduced the weight of the structure and increased its heat transfer. On the cylinder block, special channels of the main oil line, its flanges and tides are cut out.

Lubrication and fuel injection systems

Particular attention should be paid to the lubrication system of the main units - it is a combined type. This, in turn, allows you to reduce energy consumption, the amount of toxic emissions and get the maximum possible power. Features of the service

The manufacturer guarantees normal operation of the engine for 200 thousand km with timely and quality service. Routine work should be carried out once every 15 thousand km while operating cars under normal conditions, and twice as often in heavy vehicles.

If you bought a car from the factory, the first 1-1,5 thousand km carefully monitor the level of engine oil - during the run-in it was observed its increased consumption, but below the critical value the amount of lubrication never decreased.

When driving in a strong heat with a devastated tank of drivers, you can be disturbed by the loud buzz of the gasoline pump. For the time being, this problem can be remedied by replacing the filter element of the fuel supply system. Very often, a buzzing sound disturbs, especially when the driver's side door is open - this is how the same pump works, and it will not be possible to reduce the level of noise produced.

A common problem

Each owner of cars with the presented engine faced one problem - knocking, tuffling, diesel sound during operation. The reasons for the increased noise level are in the special form of the pistons, as well as in the "clamping" of the exhaust manifold. The solution to the problem is possible in two ways:

  1. Installation of modified pistons with ET marking - this option is preferable for machines whose warranty is not yet over, because the work is obliged to carry out a service center.
  2. Replacing pistons and exhaust manifold with a 4-2-1 bezkatovy with simultaneous reprogramming of the control unit - this way will not only get rid of noise, but also increase the capacity of the unit, but it will have to be carried out independently.
