How does it change in pregnancy?

The uterus of a pregnant woman is the organ to which gynecologists pay close attention, since it is here that the birth of a new life occurs. Therefore, its proper development is the guarantee of the health of the future child.

Of great importance is the indicator, such as the height of the uterus during pregnancy (WDM) in the first trimester, because during this period it is important to determine the exact term of pregnancy by doctors. In the next trimester, the embryo begins to develop faster, which implies an increase in space for it, so the uterus also increases in size. With each week, it more and more goes beyond the borders of the small pelvis, changing its structure and shape.

It can be argued that doubling with pregnancy helps not only to correctly establish its term, but also indicates the intrauterine state of the embryo, the rate of its development, and also makes it possible to establish the date of birth.

At the very beginning of pregnancy, the height of the uterus is measured with the help of a vaginal examination, a little later it is measured twice by centimeter tape. It is necessary to know that deviations in the size of more than three centimeters in the second trimester of pregnancy may indicate abnormalities in fetal development, low blood pressure, multiple pregnancy or a large fetus, and the fact that the period was not set correctly. Therefore, an experienced doctor conducts an additional examination of a woman.

Thus, the distance from the pubic symphysis to the upper point of the uterus is defined as the height of the uterus, during pregnancy, this figure is measured in the recumbent position of the woman, while her bladder should be empty. The height of the uterus is measured by the doctor at each examination.

The doctors compiled a special table, which allows to determine the correspondence of the height of the uterus bottom to the term of pregnancy. Using this table, a gynecologist can judge the normal or unnatural course of the process of bearing a baby. However, it should be borne in mind that the indicators in the table may vary depending on the individual characteristics of the female body, the size of the embryo and its position in the uterus, as well as the amount of amniotic fluid. Therefore, twice during pregnancy is measured together with the circumference of the abdomen. Any deviation of the height of the uterine fundus from the norm should be alarmed, because this may indicate placental insufficiency, polyhydramnios or presence of infection. Usually, infections appear due to ingestion of an intomegalivirus woman or herpes virus. Frequent causes of this phenomenon include abortions, miscarriages or cervical insufficiency. Polyhydramnios, in case of its sharp formation, pose a great danger to the fetus, as it indicates its infection or anomaly of development. In such cases, the pregnancy is interrupted most often, but can make a puncture of the amniotic fluid in order to get an extra amniotic fluid.

The large size of the uterus may also indicate that a woman has a disease such as fibroids. It should be noted that it does not pose a threat to the fetus and does not affect the course of pregnancy. However, it is necessary to monitor the doctors for the course of the disease, since at any stage of pregnancy the myoma can become inflamed. If this happens, a caesarean section is performed.

Thus, twice in pregnancy, measured in centimeters and corresponds to the term. For example, at a uterus height of twenty centimeters, the gestation period will be twenty weeks.

Pregnancy is an important stage in the life of every woman. Its normal course ensures the healthy development of the future child, therefore gynecologists, at each visit of the future mother, study the circumference of her abdomen and at least twice, during pregnancy which play an important role, since they can indicate various disorders in the formation and development of the fetus.
