Who is the author of the project of such a building?

The idea of creating an unusual house with apartments for tenants and studios of artists arose from the communications engineer PN PNtsov, who lived in Moscow in the early twentieth century. Being an excellent engineer and a great fan of art, Pyotr Nikolayevich arranged a closed competition for the best house design. He appointed a prize in the amount of 800 rubles to the one whose project will take the first place, and 500 rubles for the second.

In his design, Pertsov's house was supposed to reflect the spirit of Russian architecture and traditions, but at the same time to be modern. His works were submitted to the jury by artist S. V. Milyutin, architect A. I. Diderichs, architect and artist L. M. Brailovsky. The first prize went to Vasnetsov. But Pertsov decided nevertheless to build on the project Milutin (the author of the painting of the first Russian nesting dolls), because it was not so standard.

This building in the Art Nouveau style, richly decorated, was built in two years. House Pertsova turned out exquisite and magnificent. The tourist's view and asymmetrically located windows, balconies, unusual tower-shaped roof protrusions are striking. Balconies decorated with sculptures of dragons, gilded grille with lions, mounted on the ridge of the roof. And above the green tower, on the roof rises a gilded cock. The facade is richly decorated with majolica panels depicting the sun, bull, fish, bears and other animals in a bizarre form.

An interesting story of the decoration of the piers between the windows of the fourth floor and the mantel pediments. At that time in Moscow there was a certain firm "Murava". It was organized by young artists of the Stroganov School. The guys were talented, ready to show their creative abilities, but, unfortunately, little-known. After all, all wealthy people preferred to deal with mastiff, eminent artists. So the artel was one step away from closing. Pertsov did not lose, trusting his order to this firm. Young artists were able to realize their powerful creative potential, taking into account all the wishes and tastes of the client.

During the construction of the house, the customer's requirements regarding modern technologies were met. There were no wooden floors in the house . Electrical wiring, water supply, sewerage communications were carefully hidden.

Basement of a wonderful house. Description

Tourists are very interested in the history of the basement of Pertsov's house. It was here that the cult, as it is now customary to say, cafe "The Bat" was located. About what kind of atmosphere reigned in the cafe, you can judge by the point from the statute "Do not be offended." Actors and other visitors of the cafe showed themselves here in completely different roles, sometimes opposing reality.

The owners' apartment was decorated with mahogany panels, a dining room made of carved oak, cornices and platbands covered with strange carvings were made of birch. Was even equipped with a dish-lift to lower the dishes from the kitchen to the buffet at the canteen. In the rooms there were paintings of famous artists.

Period of Bolshevik rule. What happened to the house?

After the seizure of power by the Bolsheviks, Pertsov's house in Moscow was nationalized, and newly-won fighters captured the expensive apartments for the happiness of the people. For example, the most original four-room apartment of a certain eccentric Pozdnyakov was put by Leon Trotsky's eye. Then he moved to the private quarters of the lady's owners, not forgetting to assign at the same time their unique things: rare paintings, sculptures, furniture, vases and so on. What caused admiration for foreign diplomats, who, being at receptions in the mansion of Trotsky, expressed their astonishment with the exquisite taste of Lev Davidovich.

They did not suspect that he only took away all these works of art and other accessories from the true owners of the Pertsovs' house. Meanwhile, the creator of the unusual house was first evicted from his home, and then sent to prison, as Nikolai Petrovich openly opposed the destruction of churches. He was in prison for about 3 years, and then was released.
