Hoses for irrigation: features of choice

The choice of a hose for watering plants is an important task for gardeners and truck farmers. Today, there is a wide range of products on the market designed for these purposes. Watering hoses have different properties and have a different price.

All products for water supply can be divided into fence and garden. The first group has a hard base, which prevents the hoses from "collapsing". Such materials easily withstand the negative pressure that occurs when the fluid is taken from the well. The second type of product is directly the hoses for irrigation. They are usually connected after a pump that pushes water.

These materials have good flexibility, ease, they are easy to use. Such hoses for irrigation are required in any household in large quantities. They are used to irrigate plants through lugs or sprinklers, wash tracks and machines, create a domestic water supply.

The most common materials from which watering devices are made are polymers and rubber. Often a three-layered version is produced, when an outer protective layer and an inner component are present, and a tissue reinforcing gasket is located between them. All these materials determine the properties of the product.

Watering hose (rubber) must withstand the pressure created by the head of water. For this, the working load must be three times lower than indicated in its characteristics. In irrigation systems, this indicator is rarely higher than 6 bar, so standard products can withstand it.

When choosing hoses for irrigation, you should take into account the temperature regime at which the material will be used. If there is a need for pumping water during frosts (late autumn), products with improved properties should be purchased. Otherwise, they will lose strength and elasticity. When hot water is passed, there is also a danger that the hoses for irrigation will lose their quality.

Depending on the speed of the fluid and pressure, a product with an appropriate diameter is selected. If the cross-section is too large, the pressure may drop, and it will not be enough for normal watering.

Too small a hole will not allow you to get the required water flow, which can affect the work, for example, sprinklers. The standard solution is to choose a one-inch diameter watering hose that is suitable for many pumps.

When choosing a product, you should take into account the period of its use. Any watering hose when used bends, rubs against different surfaces. The object follows the snowman on the ground, lawn, gravel or stone paths. At the same time, the main load falls on the casing, which gradually wears out, becomes thinner and becomes worthless. Different products age at different rates. Everything depends on the thickness and durability of the casing material. Depending on the conditions of use, the life of the hose is from three to ten years.
