Hood lock - types and functionality

The hood is an important part of any motor vehicle. Under the cover of this part is the "heart" of the machine. That's why every car owner thinks about hood locking. In this case, an excellent solution is the hood lock.

Problems and advantages of locks

The bonnet lock is an excellent vehicle protection. All existing devices of this type have several common characteristics and differences.

Such a lock is an important and necessary system, especially if there is an alarm in this device. After all, when the siren is closed under the hood, the attacker feels insecure. That is why the bonnet locks are in great demand among motorists, as they provide this trick. This zest for many of us may seem insufficient importance, however, for the owner of the car - this is a real trick.

But besides the positive characteristics, any bonnet lock has its drawbacks, namely:

  • These devices need to fine tune the work that is done when installing them. Very rarely the operation of any lock model is impossible without the presence of certain additional elements that are not included in the kit of this protection system.
  • The hood lock is equipped with burglar resistance, the degree of which is slightly lower than that of the transmission-type locks. The resistance is 5 minutes. For locks on the gearbox, this figure is 15 minutes.
  • On average, the bonnet locks, on the collision with the transmission locks, are eternal sources of problems in the operation of the car. Especially in frosty weather.

Types of bonnet locks

Depending on the internal device, all models of existing bonnet locks can be divided into two groups:

  1. Mechanical hood lock, which is an important element of vehicle protection. You can control this system with a switch or a toggle switch. This device has a simple design with a minimum number of parts. Thanks to this, the mechanical hood lock is a reliable and unpretentious vehicle protection. However, this system has its drawbacks. The main disadvantage of a mechanical lock is the inconvenience in operation. Also, this mechanism requires periodic lubrication of the drive cables. Although if under the hood of the car its owner peeps extremely rarely, then installing a mechanical bonnet lock is the right solution.
  2. Electromechanical lock of the hood. This bonnet lock is controlled by a keychain. This device can also be integrated in the alarm system. In addition, the bonnet of the electromechanical type is easy to use, since it works automatically in the case of setting or removing the car from the security system. However, at the same time, these devices are quite complex in their design and require competent installation in the vehicle protection system.

Today many countries are engaged in production of bonnet locks, including Russia. English, French and German locks of hood protection are the most reliable devices of this type.
