Gynecology. In Brief About Gynecology.

Gynecology is such a field of medicine, whose main, main area of interest is the state of the female reproductive system, vagina, uterus and ovaries. If you translate the word from the Greek literally, as it is, it turns out that gynecology is the science of women. A similar science that studies men already is andrology, which, as you might have guessed, deals with issues related to the medical aspects of the condition of the male reproductive system.

Practically all gynecologists without exception are "obstetrician-gynecologists" these days, which is not surprising at all, since in many, indeed many areas, gynecology and obstetrics, if not closely intertwined, at least intersect more than once .

As in all other fields of medical science, the main instruments of diagnosis in gynecology are the medical history and medical examination. However, not without its subtleties. Gynecological examination is a rather intimate process, much more delicate than, say, a usual medical examination. Moreover, for the gynecological examination, special devices are also required, for example, a vaginal mirror - a special medical mirror in the form of a metal trench or two troughs connected with it, which is used not only for gynecological examination but also for surgical interventions and medical procedures To expose the mucous membrane of the vagina, cervix and external throat of the uterus.

Gynecological examination is usually performed bimanuously (the so-called two-hand study, in which the gynecologist holds one hand on the woman's stomach, and a finger or two other hands in her vagina). The aim of the study is palpation of the cervix, the uterus itself, the ovaries and pelvic bones. The rectal-vaginal examination, which is used before a more accurate assessment of the pelvic state, in particular when a tumor is suspected or with other alarming symptoms, is also not unusual. If the gynecologist is a man, then a woman gynecologist can also perform the examination instead. In addition, as another measure of gynecological examination is the procedure of ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, which is used to determine the health status of a woman in more detail, if any prerequisites have appeared in the medical history or during the survey.

And, just like in many other fields of medicine, gynecologists resort to both medical treatment and conduct special gynecological operations. However, often both of these approaches are skillfully combined with each other, but the final treatment program, including the methods of treatment, will be chosen by a gynecologist, based solely on the patient's health status and the severity of her illness, as well as on the nature of the disease . Pre-and post-operative care in gynecology is based on exactly the same standards as all other areas of medical science, the same antibiotics, diuretics, antihypertensive drugs and antiemetics are used - naturally, adjusted for the specific individual to whom this is prescribed. In addition, hormone-modulating therapy (in the form of hormonal contraception or clomiphene citrate) is often used in gynecology , which is aimed at treating diseases of the female reproductive system susceptible to pituitary and gonadal signals.
