Bedrenetz-saxifrage is a medicinal herb. Distributed in Europe, often found in the Crimea, in the temperate latitudes of Russia, the Caucasus and the Far East, in Siberia and South-East Asia. Description

The rhizome of the plant is short, brown in color. The root is fleshy, light yellow, and can reach up to 20 cm in length. The stalk of the hedge thorn is dense and thin, with a height of 20 to 60 cm. The upper leaves consist of three lobes, and the lower leaves consist of five parts. The flowers of the plant are white, with 5 petals. They are collected in a complex umbrella, which in diameter reaches 8 cm. The flowering heifer-saxifrage between June and October.

The plant grows in well-lit places. Most often occurs in meadows and glades, as well as in forests.

Composition

The root of the thigh-saxifrage is saturated with saponins (glycosides), tannins, resins. Also in it there are aromatic compounds: derivatives of phenols, propylbenzene.

The aerial parts of the plant contain many useful substances: vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, fiber and flavonoids. Seeds are saturated with fatty oils, which contain stearic, oleic, palmitic and other acids. During the flowering period, carotene and ascorbic acid were found in the leaves.

All parts of the plant have a high content of essential oils.

Collection and Procurement

In folk medicine, all parts of the plant are used. Roots and rhizomes are harvested in October (after the end of the flowering period) or early spring. To store the dried parts of the heifer-saxifrage need in the refrigerator in a porcelain or glass container. It is also not recommended to cut the roots before drying, as they lose their useful properties and pleasant aroma.

Leaves are collected and harvested before the very beginning of flowering. During this period they are saturated with protein, fiber, ascorbic acid and carotene. The leaves of the hedgehog saxifrage are dried in well-ventilated areas or salted.

Seeds of the plant are collected only mature (they should have a light brown color). As a rule, they are harvested in the period from August to September. The dried seeds are stored in dark rooms in a glass transparent container.

Pharmacological properties

  • Furocoumarin derivatives, which are found in all parts of the plant, relieve spasms.
  • The composition of the roots of the thigh-saxifrage is bitter, insoluble in water substance - pimpinelline. It is capable of activating the excretory function of the gastric glands.
  • Bedrenets-saxifrage exposes expectorant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diaphoretic, antipyretic, astringent action.
  • Roots and rhizomes of this plant are often part of the vasodilator and blood cleansing agents.
  • In Europe, the antineoplastic properties of saxifrage are studied.

History of use in medicine

The grass of the threscent-saxifrage was already known in the period of antiquity. In Ancient Greece and Rome, this plant was grown as a medicinal plant and was used to treat heart and vascular diseases, infertility and other violations of female health, diseases of the male sexual sphere.

In the Middle Ages and New Time, the threscent-saxifrage was used as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antipyretic and anesthetic during cholera and plague. The roots of the plant were actively used by Norwegian and Swiss healers.

Today, preparations based on thigh-saxifrage are widely used in folk and traditional medicine. So, with what diseases does this plant help to fight?

The use of saxifrage in modern medicine

  • Stimulates the release of sputum in the disease of the upper respiratory tract. Tinctures and decoctions of the thigh of the saxifrage facilitate the cough and the general condition of the patient. Preparations based on this plant in combination with other drugs are prescribed for pneumonia, bronchitis, tracheitis.
  • Improves digestion and metabolism in the body.
  • Has a diuretic effect. Actively used in kidney stones, diseases of the kidneys and biliary tract.
  • Preparations, which include a heifer of saxifrage, are prescribed for viral diseases, acute respiratory disease, fever, bronchial asthma.
  • The plant has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antiseptic action with gastritis, enterocolitis. It is used for constipation.
  • Rinse throat with a diluted tincture of the thigh is indicated for angina, laryngitis and scarlet fever.

Recipes of medicinal tinctures

In folk and traditional medicine, the tincture of the heifer of the saxifrage is most often used. The testimonies indicate that already 2 weeks after the start of treatment the patient's condition improves significantly, the unpleasant symptoms of the diseases disappear.

Tinctures are prepared as follows:

  • Grind the roots of the femora and fill 100 g with 500 ml of alcohol. The mixture should be infused for 14 days. Finished medicine is drunk 3 times a day for 15 drops.
  • Grind the roots, take 15 g and pour them 500 ml of boiling water. Then the mixture should be steamed in a water bath for 15 minutes and left under a closed lid for 4 hours. For colds, tracheitis, bronchitis and kidney stones, you should drink 2 cups of medication per day for 4 approaches.
  • Mix the roots of the saxifrage with water and vodka in the proportion 2: 2: 5. When dropsy, the mixture is drunk 30 drops several times a day.

Use in Cooking

Even in ancient times the threshed-saxifrage was used as a spice, as it had a pleasant aroma and unusual bitter taste. Today, this plant is often included in various seasonings. Mature seeds of the femora have a pleasant carrot-vegetable smell and are used during cooking ragout and dishes from courgettes and eggplants.

Inflorescences umbrellas are added to the pickle when pickling cucumbers and tomatoes.

Also, the feminine is often replaced by cumin and anise during the preparation of meat, fish and vegetable dishes.

This plant is used as a natural flavor in the process of making mayonnaise and vinegar.

Hemoral seeds are used in the production of bread, cheese, and roots and leaves - for flavoring sausage, beer and other beverages.
