"Genesis (Terminator)": reviews of the movie, actors and roles

The new film of the world-famous saga of robots from the future and the Judgment Day, called "Genesis (Terminator)," the reviews did not get the most favorable, but this does not detract from some of its merits. Undoubtedly, it deserves attention, especially in comparison with the 3rd and 4th parts of the media franchise, which failed.

Preparation for filming and filming

The picture has several executive producers, including Megan Ellison, who is also the head of Annapurna Pictures, who refused to finance the new trilogy. Money obligations fell on the shoulders of Paramount Pictures and Skydance Production, which announced a reboot. The fantastic action movie "Terminator: Genesis" until the last moment was shrouded in a veil of secrets, knocking spectators off the table. Preparation for filming began on December 1, 2013, and they were held in San Francisco and New Orleans for 106 days. The film "Terminator: Genesis" was completed on May 22, 2015, and in the world rolled out a month later.

Plot

The events of the film transfer the audience immediately into several time lines. The starting point of the narrative is the prologue on behalf of Kyle Reese, who tells the story of how in 1997 the Skynet computer network led the world to a nuclear apocalypse. Several years after the Day of Judgment, and a little Reese nearly died at the hands of the terminator robots, but was rescued by John Connor in time. As before, the latter is the leader of resistance due to his extensive knowledge of the structure of machines. Then the plot unfolds in 2029, when the war for peace is almost won, but the enemy manages to send the T-800 terminator back in time to kill the mother of the future leader, Sarah Connor. In parallel with him moves Reese, in order to prevent the evil plans of the villains. In the first half hour the film "Terminator: Genesis" practically does not run counter to the original script. Arriving in 1984, Kyle meets another T-1000 model terminator , from which he is rescued by Sarah Connor. But in this universe, she was originally in conjunction with Arnold Schwarzenegger's hero and explained to the sergeant that a temporary shift had occurred, and the past changed, so the heroes will face completely new situations and enemies.

Creators

To head the resurrection of the "Terminator" was proposed to Eng Lee, Denis Villeneuve and Ryan Johnson, but all three refused. As a result, the director of the project was director Alan Taylor. Before that, he was mostly seen as a producer of serials. Among his most famous works are such popular shows as "The Game of Thrones", "Underground Empire" and "Madmen". Perhaps this was reflected in the picture, in which the narrative turned out to be very twisted, and also a lot of plot lines and time lines running through the whole film were involved. Also in his filmography includes the tape Marvel "Tor 2", which brought him to the widescreen road, serving as an excellent experience. The script was taken by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis, and James Cameron and Gail Anne Hurd remained in the role of consultants and developers of original characters. World fame and success instantly surrounded Emilia after HBO released the series "The Game of Thrones", staged on the cycle of books by the famous writer George Martin. She managed to cope with tough competition and was approved for the role of Deeneris Targarien. The filming of the television series began in 2010 and lasts to this day, while Emilia Clark continues to play one of the main characters in this story. During the breaks between the seasons, she also managed to star in several films, including "Spike Island", "House Hemingway" and the short film "Chained in the Circuit". And in 2016 it is planned to release just two full-length works with her participation. After approving the role of Sarah Connor in the film Genesis (Terminator), the feedback from the Internet users about this decision was very controversial, because the audience is accustomed to the role of the "mother of dragons", and Linda Hamilton is still not forgotten. However, the actress excellently coped with the role and replenished the treasury of her professional experience, going beyond the television series.

Jason Clarke

In the film "Terminator: Genesis" the actors were selected with particular care, and the producers decided to take on the main roles of such performers, whose faces will be familiar to the audience. The role of John Connor was approved by the namesake of Emilia - Jason Clarke. Before getting to the big screen, he took part in numerous projects, often on second plans. To recognize the actor became after such films as "Johnny D.", "Deviation" and "The most drunken district in the world". And the real success can be considered his role in sensational paintings, among which are "Target Number One" and "Planet of the Apes: Revolution." In the movie "Terminator: Genesis", the actors in the second plan also contributed. The brilliant JK Simmons, who received an Oscar in 2015, embodied on the screen the image of Detective O'Brien, who fought on the side of good. It is thanks to his character that the heroes successfully escape from a predicament. But the role of the British actor and former football player Matt Smith for a long time was not made public, since it has a decisive role for the plot. All sites indicated that he played a certain Alex, but it turned out to be a standard trick to conceal the details of the script, so in the final credits he already appears under a different name. Smith became widely known for his participation in the popular TV series Doctor Who, where he played the main role for three seasons. And the son of Miles Dyson named Danny, who actually breathed life into the Skynet network, was played by the young actor Diao Okenii.

Feedback and future of the project

Sadly, the new film of the famous saga with the name "Genesis (Terminator)" reviews from critics received not the most positive, but, rather, extremely negative. Many of them refer to the lack of uniqueness, seriousness and sincerity, which resulted in an unsuccessful attempt to remake the classics in a new way. In Russia, the comments of users and opinions of reviewers were divided equally: praising the picture of Alan Taylor and sharply critical. As for the main Network resources, on Rotten Tomatoes only one-fourth of users rated the film positively, iMDb estimated it to be 6.6, and the same rating was awarded to domestic users of the popular site "Kinoiskisk". As you know, it was planned that a fantastic action movie will get 2 more sequels and become a trilogy. However, it's no secret that it is the box office, ratings and reviews that influence the possibility of continuation. In this case, unfortunately, they turned out to be far from expectations, which put the future filming under big question. Therefore, those who liked the picture, so far it remains only to wait for comments from the creators.
