He was enlisted in the military service after successfully passed the exams for admission to the engineering faculty of the Black Sea Naval Forces named after PS Nakhimov. In 1960 the cadet Sergeyev graduated with honors from this educational institution with a specialty in rocket weapons.

Career after the collapse of the USSR

In 1992, General Sergeev, whose photo is presented above, became the leader of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces. This period was one of the most difficult in his life, since the military leader understood all the responsibilities assigned to him, because despite the collapse of the Soviet Union, the missile forces stationed on the territory of the former republics needed management and control. It was necessary to organize the movement of missile technology, fuel and nuclear munitions and their delivery to Russia. The solution of this most complicated task took quite a long time. Thanks to General Sergeyev and other officers of the Russian Federation's missile forces, the Strategic Missile Force retained its combat capability, becoming one of the pillars of the Russian Army's combat capability.

In addition, Igor Dmitrievich took an active part in the creation, testing and adoption of modern missile systems into the arsenal of the RA, and also made a great contribution to the training of specialists for the operation of mobile Topol.

For the post of head of the Ministry of Defense

On May 22, 1997, General Sergeev was appointed Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation (in connection with the dismissal of I. N. Rodionov), and a few months later he was awarded the rank of marshal. This high post assumed membership in the Defense Council of the Russian Federation and in the Security Council of Russia. In the first days at the new post Sergeev announced to his subordinates that the army and fool were reforming money with money, urging them to proceed from what is.

In August 1997, Igor Dmitrievich became a representative of the president in the Russian parliament and took part in the discussion on the necessity and possibility of ratifying the International Convention on Chemical Weapons.

On March 23, 1998, I. Sergeyev was sent into retirement with other ministers of V. Chernomyrdin's office . A month later, he was reassigned to the position held before. However, in August-September of the same year, the government crisis broke out. Nevertheless, Sergeev again took up the post of Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation and subsequently retained it in the governments of Primakov, S. Stepashin and V. Putin.

In connection with the latter's accession to the office of Russian president in May 2000, all members of his cabinet resigned. A little later, Igor Dmitrievich was appointed head of the Defense Ministry in the government of M. Kasyanov.

In July 2000, Sergeev I.D. became famous as the main supporter of the idea that the strategic nuclear forces should play an important role in the Russian defense system, since they are the guarantee of the country's security. This approach proved its effectiveness, despite the fact that it was initially met with hostility by many well-known military and politicians.

President's advisor

Marshal Sergeyev resigned from the post of head of the MoD on March 28, 2001. President Vladimir Putin, having accepted it, appointed Igor Dmitrievich as his assistant in matters of strategic stability. In his new role, Sergeev was engaged in developing proposals for ensuring the country's military security in the new system of international relations. In addition, he participated in the preparation of proposals for negotiations on missile defense, etc. In March 2004, the former marshal was dismissed from his post as an assistant to the president.

Retired

Since 2002, Sergeyev has coordinated the activities of veteran organizations. In this field the marshal was engaged in projects carried out by the Russian organizing committee "Victory". According to Sergeyev, it was necessary to recruit retired domestic and foreign commanders of high rank to work for the benefit of society. In particular, the Marshal called for using the experience of fellow veterans to settle armed conflicts.

Death

The military leader died on November 10, 2006 after a serious illness in the capital hospital. N. Burdenko. The civil funeral service was held 3 days later in the Cultural Center of the Armed Forces. Heads of the FSB and the Ministry of the Interior of Russia and the Accounting Chamber of Russia came to pay tribute to ID Sergeyev. In the mourning ceremony, President Vladimir Putin and members of the board of the Ministry of Defense headed by Minister Sergei Ivanov took part.

Ivanov was buried at the Troekurov cemetery of the capital.

Achievements

Igor Sergeev was a doctor of technical sciences. In different years, the military commander was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the October Revolution, the Red Star, "For Military Merit" and dozens of medals.

General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Sergeev

The name of the only marshal of Russia today is quite common. For example, it has another general, but not the Russian Armed Forces, and the Interior Ministry is Andrei F. Sergeev (born in 1964). He began his service in 1985 in the organs of the Interior Department of the Novosibirsk Region from the position of a simple policeman in the department of private security. In 1996, AF Sergeev enrolled in the academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, after which he served in the Internal Affairs Administration of the Novosibirsk Region until 2006. Later, he was entrusted with the post of head of the Internal Affairs Directorate in the Magadan region, and in 2016 - appointed head of the Moscow Department of the Interior for the Chelyabinsk region.

Now you know what life lived one of the founders of the modern Russian army, General Sergeev. The biography of Igor Dmitrievich, who has risen to the highest military rank of the Russian Federation, is an excellent example for young officers who are just making their first steps in the field of service to the fatherland.
