GAZ-3104 Volga: characteristics, description, features and reviews

Recently, a popular topic for discussion was the rare, and sometimes not published, model of domestic cars. Often referred to as "Lada" - "Hope", "Carat", "Consul". But very few people know that such examples are not only in AvtoVAZ, but also in the Gorky plant. In the 2000s, an active development of the premium sedan was carried out. And it's not about "Saiber", but about his ancestor. So, meet - GAZ-3104 "Volga". Description and specifications - later in this article.

Design

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the plant decided to reduce the cost of production of the Volga. So, the new model 31029 differed in scant design and did not correspond to its former premium status. GAZ-3104 is a brand new car unlike other models of the Gorky Automobile Plant. The machine has a decent appearance. The development of the exterior was carried out together with leading Italian designers. The model got a nice slant optics from the company "Hella", a chrome grille and massive moldings with chrome-elements. Also shiny were the door handles and edging of the side windows. The car completely corresponds to its class. Already in standard equipment, there are huge alloy wheels. The back part was also not similar to the other "Volga". Despite its uniqueness, some compared the "Volga" GAZ-3104 with the British "Rover". In particular, this concerned the rear optics.

Dimensions, clearance

The car was an order of magnitude longer than the usual "Volga". So, the body size was exactly 5 meters. The width and height are 1.8 and 1.43 meters respectively. The ground clearance is 16 centimeters.

Salon

The inside of the car deserves respect. Above the salon was a huge work. Although the design of the dashboard could be different, not "gazelle" - note the reviews. Nevertheless, sitting comfortably and pleasantly inside. Throughout the perimeter there are strips with wooden trim, symbolizing the luxury of the salon. Door cards are equipped with a window regulator, and also have their own speakers. Instead of the mechanical handle for adjusting the mirrors, there are "peepers" here. The very adjustment of the mirrors is now electric. All the necessary buttons are under the left hand of the driver.

The central console contains three air ducts, a radio tape recorder and a climate control unit. Despite belonging to the premium class, inside we see the handle of the mechanical gearbox and the fabric interior. In this regard, there are comments from many car owners. From the side of the passenger there is a capacious glove box. However, its handle is painted black (although at the doors it is chrome plated). The handlebars are four-spoke, with a comfortable grip. But it does not have control buttons. GAZ-3104 was the first car in the family, which was equipped with airbags. Previously, only belts with pretensioners were installed on the Volga. Also in the sedan of model 3104 there is an air conditioner and a full electropackage.

Specifications

Under the hood at the "Volga" was located the unit from the Zavolzhsky motor plant. This engine is familiar to all gazelists - ZMZ-405. The model is a modernized version of the 406th engine. The main difference between the 405-th is the presence of injection injection. In view of this, the inlet has been changed. In particular, under the hood was placed a huge air filter of cylindrical shape. However, if it was vertical on the GAZel, it is set horizontally in the Volga.

Reviews say that the filter housing is quite heavy and massive. The element essentially hides the free space under the hood. This problem was observed in all "Volga" with a 405-m gasoline engine. What other improvements were made regarding the engine? Also, work was done to increase the working volume. If earlier it was 2.3 liters, now it is 2.5. This gave an increase in capacity by 5 percent. The total capacity of the unit is 152 horsepower. The torque increased to 214 Nm. The machine is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox.

What does GAZ-3104 Volga have dynamic characteristics? Due to the large volume and modernized piston group, acceleration to a hundred was 11 and a half seconds. And this despite the fact that the curb weight of the sedan was almost 1800 kilograms. The maximum speed of the Gorky sedan was 190 kilometers per hour.

Chassis

GAZ-3104 has an independent front suspension. It is built on transverse double levers. This was a huge step forward for the Gorky Automobile Plant. After all, the manufacturer previously practiced only an independent pivot element. A multi-link construction was used behind it.

A distinctive feature of the GAZ-3104 sedan is the availability of an all-wheel drive. The brake system was also refined. Model 3104 was the first of the "Volga", which no longer used drum brakes. Now, on both axes, disc mechanisms are installed (front - vented). In addition, the sedan was equipped with the ABS system from the German company Bosch. As the tests at the testing range showed, the car became more maneuverable and sensitive to the steering wheel. Previously, the "Volga" differed in its slowness. The machine successfully coped with the tests. Suspension "Volga" is quite energy-intensive. In this case, the car is characterized by good controllability and efficient brakes. Anti-lock system of wheels is able to prevent the machine from running in the event of emergency braking. Finally, the domestic "Volga" has become as safe as foreign cars.

GAZ-3104 "Volga" - the price

It should be noted that this model was only an experimental model. Like the previous "Volga" (this model 3103), the project was not implemented in practice. However, it served as a huge impetus for the creation of a new generation of cars - the Volga Siber. This machine was serially produced at the Gorky Automobile Plant from 2007 to 2012. Now this car can be found on sale for 300-350 thousand rubles. The machine was equipped with American Chrysler engines and had a more modernized appearance.

At that time, the sedan received an index of 3105. But, like our specimen, it was never implemented in practice.
