Fracture of the radius of the arm must be treated

Fracture of the radius of the arm often happens and makes up to a quarter of similar injuries of the upper limbs. The number of such injuries, as a rule, increases in the winter. On a slippery road a person often loses balance and, falling, exposes his hand, obeying instinct. Because of the anatomical features of the structure of the radial bone, there is a weak spot on it, which is near the wrist joint. It is here that most fractures occur. They are divided into two types: extensor and flexion, occurring much less frequently. In addition, fracture of the radius of the arm can be open and closed, with or without displacement.

Such injuries can be at any age, but elderly people are more likely to suffer. With an open fracture, skin damage is observed, and bone fragments can be seen in the wound. It is impossible to touch them, let alone try to correct them. Before the arrival of the ambulance, you can treat the edges of the wound with iodine spirit tincture and apply a bandage so that the infection does not penetrate into the soft and bony tissues.

The closed fracture of the radius bone does not look so frightening, because the integuments remain intact. However, you can not do without seeking medical help. Fracture of the radial bone without bias is diagnosed without conducting an X-ray study, it is rather difficult. With such damage, the patient is concerned only with a small swelling and not particularly severe pain. In addition, all the functions of the bone remain unchanged. However, if you leave such a fracture without treatment, complications may arise, which in some cases cause disability.

If there is a fracture of the radius of the arm with an offset, then almost immediately there are characteristic signs: edema in the place of injury, increasing pain. The injured limb needs to create peace, fixing it with the help of improvised materials, but not very tight. Do not let go of your arm, because the swelling will intensify. If it is not possible to get medical help right away, it is recommended to apply cold to the site of damage. In no case should you not warm, because heat contributes to swelling. With severe pain, you can take analgin. But going to the doctor is simply necessary, because bone fragments can damage the nerves, vessels and muscles in the immediate vicinity.

Fracture of the radius of the arm with displacement is treated in a hospital. To confirm the diagnosis made by external examination, an x-ray is prescribed, and the study should be carried out in two planes. With such a trauma, the main method of treatment is the correction of the fracture and fixation with a gypsum langeta, which is applied for up to 4 weeks. In children, the bones coalesce faster, so this period is much shorter - does not exceed 15 days.

A big role in recovery is played by gymnastics for the fingers, which is prescribed already on the second day after repositioning. A week later, if there are no complications and you are at home, you can try to sort the rump, wipe the dust and do other simple manipulations. When the plaster is removed, it is necessary to do exercises for the brush, elbow joint, shoulder. This is necessary for the development of muscles, which were forced to be limited in movement. A good effect is provided by therapeutic massage, because the patient improves not only blood circulation, but also metabolic processes.

With timely access to a doctor, the fracture of the radial bone heals fairly quickly, of course, if during the treatment there were no complications. In order to avoid injury, you should periodically, at least twice a year, take a course of massage. In addition, it is undesirable to overload the injured arm, because in this case the circulation of blood is limited and the muscles do not receive sufficient nutrition.
