"Floxal" (eye drops) - features of application

"Floxal" - eye drops, designed for local treatment of various ophthalmic diseases. The main active ingredient in the preparation is the antibiotic ofloxacin, it belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. The drug "Floxal" (eye drops) has an effect on a large number of gram-negative bacteria, as well as some gram-positive bacteria. Bacteria that form beta-lactamase are also sensitive to this drug. Among the anaerobic bacteria, only Bacteroides urealyticus is sensitive to floxal.

The antimicrobial effect that occurs after the use of phloxal is due to the fact that ofloxacin inhibits the enzyme DNA-gyrase that is in the microbial cell. Due to this, this drug has a bactericidal effect.

Indications for use

Phloxal (eye drops) is prescribed for children and adults in the following cases:

- to prevent infection during surgery on the eyeball, as well as after eye injuries;

- in order to treat various infectious inflammations that develop after surgery or after getting an injury in the eye area;

- for therapy in the presence of diseases of the anterior and eye cells caused by bacteria that are sensitive to this drug, and these include diseases such as keratitis, dacryocystitis, corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, chlamydial eye damage, blepharitis, and barley.

Floxal (eye drops) - the way of application

In those cases when complex therapy is prescribed with the use of several local preparations for the treatment of the eyes, an interval between them should be maintained, which should not be less than 5 minutes. In some cases, to get a better effect, it is recommended to take both drops and "Phloxal" ointment together, but then first drops are introduced, and then an ointment is applied.

Reception: drops are introduced one at a time in the diseased eye, up to 4 times a day. The drug is instilled into the lower conjunctival sac. The duration of such treatment should not exceed two weeks.

If ointment is used, it is also placed in the affected eye, or rather, in its lower conjunctival sac, up to 3 times a day. For the application of enough strips of ointment length of 1.5 cm in the behavior of treatment of chlamydial lesions the drug should be applied up to 5 times a day. The duration of treatment is also no more than 14 days.

Possible side effects

The most common negative effects that can occur after using the drug "Floxal" (eye drops) are: allergic reactions, transient redness, a feeling of discomfort in the eyes, conjunctivitis, dryness or itching of the eyes, burning sensation, photophobia, lacrimation. In rare cases, dizziness may occur.

Contraindications to the use of phloxal

This drug can not be prescribed in cases where the patient does not tolerate fluoroquinolones and has allergic reactions.

Although there is currently no reliable information that floxal negatively affects the body during pregnancy, it is undesirable to prescribe it in this case.

There were no overdoses of the drug.

The drug "Floxal" belongs to the list B, it is sold only on prescription. The shelf life of the packaged product is 3 years, and after the opening of its packaging - 6 weeks, after the specified terms, phloxal is prohibited.
