Features of coins in 1938: who they are interested in and how they were released

The history of Soviet money itself is very entertaining. It is interesting to observe how during the existence of the Soviet power ideals and principles changed, reflected in the design of coins and paper bills. The slogans, important state officials, the idea of uniting the proletariat under the red banners - all this was embodied not only in the pages of books and in the minds of people, but also on the money.

The first Soviet coins

Initially, Soviet money, which replaced the tsarist ones, demonstrated an absolutely new idea for the population of Russia-the unification of the proletariat and the creation of a socialist state. It should be noted that such coins wore agitational character (as, for example, a penny in 1938).

The change in Soviet money in 1935

Symbolic change in the design of coins in 1935 issue. From their front side the slogan was removed: "Workers of all countries unite!". This change was a reflection of the change in foreign policy from internationalism to the building of communism within a single country.

Also, several new ribbons were added to the coat of arms of the USSR , which were symbolized by the joined republics. In 1935 there were only six of them, but by 1957, fifteen ribbons appeared on the arms.

Coins of 1938

Coins of the mentioned year of issue had denominations of one to twenty cents. By the way, the repeated release of such coins occurred only in the fifties. The coins of the 1938 issue have one special feature - they were minted in a limited edition and with a higher quality than coins circulated in the thirties.

It is interesting that the composition of the alloy, from which these pennies were made, is still not known for certain. Some collectors believe that nickel was used more for chasing, while others believe that silver is used. There is no unanimous opinion. Therefore, it turns out that the aforementioned kopecks were surrounded by a halo of secrecy, because no one knows exactly how many there were, what alloy they used and what was the real price of 1938 coins. Who will not inspire the study?

1 kopeck

The cost of seemingly useless coins in the thirties, has soared to the skies. Numismatists highly appreciate a kopeck of this denomination because of its special engraving and drawing on the reverse. The weight of a penny is about one gram. The diameter is fifteen millimeters.

Particularly interesting is the image of the coat of arms of the USSR and ears on the reverse by the fact that, in contrast to the coins that preceded the earthen bandages on the obverse, there were not seven but eleven. Above the ears, the rising sun was depicted, and a sickle and a hammer above the planet in the center of the coat of arms.

2 kopecks

The coin of this denomination has several varieties. Occurrence of various variants of copecks is usually connected with difficulties at coinage. And you can determine their appearance by the number of nodules. Do this with a magnifying glass and, of course, a reference book. The weight of the named monetary unit is two grams, and the diameter is about two centimeters.

The price of a coin, with a face value of two kopecks, varies from two hundred rubles to one thousand dollars. The cost depends on the rarity and appearance of the very penny in 1938. Someone may be interested in the differences in these coins, but someone will not give them attention and sell a rare copy for several hundred rubles. The rarity of this penny depends, as we have already said, primarily on the drawing on the reverse.

15 kopecks

A coin of this value is quite popular among buyers, although at one time it was quite common.

Its front side was decorated with the state emblem of the USSR. In 1938, the coin design did not acquire any special change, on the contrary, rather, it simplified.

On the reverse of a penny its nominal value is indicated. The inscription "15" occupies the most part of the reverse, and on the sides and above there are oak branches. The weight of the coin is 2.7 grams, the diameter is 19 millimeters. As with other kopecks this year, the front side of the coin depicts eleven bundles of ears. They have a meaning - they symbolize the eleven republics of the USSR (and in the early thirties there were seven).

The price of a coin of 15 kopecks, in 1938, varies greatly, but in rather modest limits - from one to seven dollars. Such a low price, especially in comparison with other coins of 1938, someone may surprise, but in general, it is easily explained by a large circulation.

It should be noted that the features of the alloys always protected coins from fakes and did not allow counterfeiters to disclose the secret of kopeck production. This phenomenon is noticeable in 1938 as well. Whom this invention should consider its author, remains unclear.

Socialist ideology, which strongly influenced the minds of people, reflected on coins, as if emphasizing and recalling the mission of the state that produced this money. And in general, it is clear how in the design and drawing on the reverse of the coins the changes that took place in 1938 in the USSR were displayed.

The change in ideology itself can be traced if we compare the coins of the twenties, thirties, fifties, and seventies. They are strikingly different. First, the slogan "Workers of all countries unite!" Disappears , and then all agitational symbols and images (for example, the image of workers and peasants on banknotes) disappear.

The influence of socialism, as it is known, went beyond the boundaries of the Soviet Union. In communist China money also acquired a propagandistic character.

In the image of the yuan, for example, you can notice the same idea of uniting the proletariat and the peasantry in the struggle for socialism.

Indeed, money has always been a matter of daily necessity, and images on them were a reflection of the spirit of the nation (for example, US presidents on the dollar), and this is the natural course of things.
