Family psychotherapy: how effective is it?

In the West, family psychotherapy has become a common practice for many spouses who wish to maintain their marriage for years to come. In our country, professionals of this specialization are rarely treated. This happens for several reasons. First, the standard of living of the population is not high enough to pay for such expensive services. After all, not every couple can afford to allocate funds from the family budget for a psychologist. Secondly, the relative underdevelopment of this direction in the country makes the services of specialists unclaimed.

However, it should be noted that with each year family psychotherapy is becoming more common, and hence, soon the civilized solution of problems in marriage will become the norm. Indeed, the spouses in most conflicts are not able to look at the situation from the outside and analyze their own mistakes. A qualified psychologist will help to properly assess the situation and provide a list of recommendations for normalizing the life of a particular couple in the future.

In addition, family psychotherapy is aimed not only at creating a supportive atmosphere in the family, but also in the proper education of children. It's not a secret for anyone that in adolescence the child becomes extremely irritable, and sometimes uncontrollable. The specialist's assistance is focused on assessing a child's mental health, analyzing relationships with parents and developing methods of behavior in conflict situations. As a psychologist, the family is seen as a group of people in a single whole, and also each member of the family as a separate individual. A complex situation can be associated with a set of external factors that inevitably affect this group. However, often the problems that arise between spouses are explained by the presence of complexes or shower trauma, rooted in the distant childhood of one of the partners. Having identified the main reason, you can dramatically change the relationship in the family.

Recently, special importance has been acquired by systemic family psychotherapy. It represents a specific approach to an individual cell in society, in which it is believed that the negative impact on one of its members affects the others. The negative component accumulates, as a result of which the entire system of relations in marriage is violated. Family systemic psychotherapy allows the group in question to divert attention from external factors and concentrate on more important and meaningful things, for example, caring for each other and for manifesting love.

As a rule, the emerging conflicts in the pair are not solved, but simply hushed up. But the resentment left by the spouses, accumulates with each new quarrel, which in the end leads to total misunderstanding and even hatred. Family psychotherapy not only contributes to the establishment of a shaken relationship, but also takes them to a new level, where mutual support prevails. The duration of such therapy depends on the degree of neglect of the situation and can range from several weeks to many years.
