Error 0x8007045d: causes and method of repair

Quite often in Windows (especially in Vista) when performing seemingly simple operations for copying files, sometimes there are failures (error code 0x8007045d). What is it and how to find a way out of this situation, we now look.

Error 0x8007045d when copying data

Actually, the failure itself when copying or moving files or folders means even not the inability to transfer data from one place to another, but, it would be more correct to say, the creation of a similar structure in a certain place.

So a Windows message appears (error 0x8007045d), which says that the system can not create a new file or folder in the specified location (and, as the warning itself indicates, it's an unexpected error). What should I do in this case?

The simplest solution is to check the system disk. In 99% of cases it helps. For testing, you need to use a non-standard tool, and the "Run" menu with a command line prompt (you can get to it through the standard "Start" menu). This is the cmd command. A command prompt appears.

Here, you need to enter a specific system volume check command, which looks like chkdsk C: / X / F / R (in case the "C" drive is also system, that is, the one on which the operating system itself is installed). It goes without saying that the launch must be performed with administrator access rights.

If such rights are not present, it is necessary to act somewhat differently. In the Start menu, there is a search bar below. Here again, you need to write down the cmd, and after the program is found, right-click on it and select it as the administrator on the submenu.

Depending on the system and the volume of the partition (or hard drive), the process can be quite long. Upon completion, it is strongly recommended that you restart the computer. As a rule, the problem disappears.

Error 0x8007045d when archiving or backing up

Now let's look at a similar situation that may occur when trying to archive data or backup. Actually, the message in which error 0x8007045d is described will be the same, but its nature is somewhat different. Without going into technical details, we will start correcting right away, bypassing the theoretical part.

By and large, again, you need to perform a system volume check. You can use the above method. However, it's better to use the command chkdsk C: / R on the same command line (if the system volume is in the form of a "C" disk). If the volume is different, then you need to register another letter.

It happens that during the reboot the system can request a disk check again. In order not to repeat the process each time, it is necessary to press the "Y" key.

Error installing Windows OS

Unfortunately, the error 0x8007045d, can also appear when installing the operating system itself. In this case, too, there is an exit.

When the system installer window appears with the discs for markup, you must use the Shift + F10 combination to enter the console. Here you will need to use the command specified for the first case again. The difference between the two processes is that the restart process will not be requested, and the system installation will continue in the normal (normal) mode.

Error transferring files to removable drives

Let's consider one more situation. Often a mistake 0x8007045d can occur when trying to copy files to regular flash drives or removable SD / SDHC memory cards. How to act in this situation?

First, the easiest way is to fully format the drive. Secondly, you can use the above verification tools, but only with the letter assigned to the removable device. This applies to cases where the same flash card or card has data that you do not want to delete.

The third method is perhaps the most common and simple. The fact is that some devices of this type can support the existence in the root directory only a certain number of files (oddly enough this sounds). But here everything is simple. It's enough just to create a new folder, and then copy the necessary information to it.

General recommendations for removable media

Among other things, a common problem for all removable memory cards can be reading them using an outdated card reader model (some models may not support large-scale cards). In such a situation, in order not to change it, it is better to just update the drivers to the freshest ones. If you know your model, you can refer to the official website of the manufacturer. If not, you can use a variety of specialized utilities to automatically update all installed drivers on the system, which determine the devices and available fresh drivers automatically. In addition, such programs in the process of installing drivers refer to official sources. What to choose, this is already decided by everyone independently. You can advise the Driver Booster application. Although it is paid, it works fine and updates not only the drivers of the individual components of the system, but completely, and even independently monitors the appearance of new versions online.
