Elevated leukocytes in the smear on the flora of women

Smear on the flora is called a microscopic examination of the scraping. In women, the sample is taken from the cervix and the vaginal wall (posterior).

In the analysis, an insignificant number of white blood cells may be present. They, performing a protective function, prevent infection in the female genital organs.

Elevated white blood cells in the smear indicate inflammation and infection. It should be noted that the greater their content, the stronger the process.

Elevated white blood cells in the smear, mainly, indicate the presence of vaginosis, thrush or colpia.

In the period of bearing the fetus, careful monitoring of the health of not only the mother, but also the future child is necessary. Therefore, elevated white blood cells in the smear during pregnancy represent a very serious threat. Their normal content during the prenatal period is up to ten in the field of vision. It should be noted that this figure indicates slightly elevated white blood cells in the smear. For the gestation period, this content is considered the norm.

Every year, a list of necessary tests includes new studies that become important for pregnant women. However, in all the years a smear on the flora is considered one of the main. This is due to the fact that this study reveals even minor changes. Thus, doctors have the opportunity to identify various diseases at the earliest stages.

In the period of bearing a child, a woman smears a flora several times.

Unfortunately, elevated white blood cells in the smear can not accurately indicate the cause of the inflammation or the type of infection. Therefore, women are often prescribed additional studies. These include, in particular, crops, PCR, or immunological examinations.

It should be noted that the most common reasons for increasing the white blood cells in the smear are:

  • Venereal diseases (spreading through sexual contact) - gonorrhea, ureaplasmosis, syphilis, mycoplasmosis;
  • Fungal infections (candidiasis).

It must be said that thrush, despite its relative harmlessness, requires competent and, importantly, timely treatment.

As a rule, when detecting an elevated level of white blood cells, women are given medications during the gestation period in accordance with the individual characteristics of each patient, the term, as well as the sensitivity of the causative agent to the effects of medications. In many cases, patients refuse to take antibiotic drugs. However, according to experts, this is not always correct. It should not be forgotten that even in the normal course of pregnancy, in the absence of any severe symptoms, the inflammatory process that develops can trigger not only the interruption of gestation, but also extensive infection of the uterine cavity.

In medical practice, there are also cases when in patients after passage of the whole antibiotic course in the results of laboratory studies an increased content of leukocytes was detected . In these cases, dysbiosis is diagnosed with a high degree of probability. To eliminate such conditions, the attending physician may prescribe a second dose of antibiotic drugs. Most often, vaginal suppositories are prescribed.

It should be noted that a high level of leukocytes can be detected not only in the smear on the flora. With the development of a number of diseases associated with the digestive system, their content will be more than normal. So, elevated white blood cells in feces can indicate colitis with manifestations. Identification of them in the parainestinal abscess testifies to its breakthrough into the intestine, with neoplasm - to its disintegration.
