Virtually the most important parameter that determines the quality of the monitor or screen is the contrast. This term means the maximum difference between the darkest color (ideally - the absolute black color), which can display the screen, and the lightest (white).
The exact methodology by which contrast is measured is not. For this reason, manufacturers use whatever they have today, and the results are given for the real parameters of the monitor, although this is not entirely true. Such checks create ideal conditions for each mode, which simply can not exist with daily use of a monitor or screen. As a result, the parameters get inflated dozens of times. Therefore, when choosing a monitor or screen, be guided by your own perception, and not on passport parameters, although they need to be known, but they should not become decisive when choosing.
Contrast distinguish between two types: natural static (native) and dynamic. Under natural understand the difference between black and white color, which the monitor is able to give without additional image processing by service programs. Dynamic contrast is the name of the technology, which allows to improve the initial parameters of the screen. This parameter is provided by the software that analyzes the current picture and changes the illumination of the monitor at certain points.
The LCD monitor itself does not emit light, special microlamps or LEDs are used to illuminate the image, which are located behind the screen. To achieve the greatest contrast of the image in the section of the screen with a dark color, the backlight turns off, than a deeper black color is achieved. To ensure the brightest white - the intensity of the glow of the elements is enhanced. This technology is called dynamic contrast. With this image processing, you can greatly increase the real screen characteristics.
Dynamic contrast can be realized only on a moving picture. If the image is static (for example, text processing in a text editor) only natural contrast operates, which is the main technical characteristic of the monitor. It is this mode that determines the image parameters.
When watching movies or while playing, dynamic contrast greatly improves the perception and clarity of the picture. So, to completely call this technology unnecessary or unnecessary is impossible, but this is technology, not the screen parameter. A display with a high natural contrast will always show deep colors and provide high-definition images, and the dynamic contrast of the monitor only improves the moving picture, while the text on the screen remains gray, not black. For this reason, choose those screens or monitors that make you feel most comfortable when working - we are different and the same parameters will be perceived differently by different people. Focus on personal perceptions and sensations, but do not forget about the technical parameters.
