Ducks - breeds common in Russia

All domestic duck breeds, except musk, originate from wild mallard, which is widespread in Europe, Asia, northern Africa, and also in North America. Musk domestic ducks descended from ducks from South America. All breeds are characterized by high fertility, precocity, good adaptability to any conditions of detention. Ducks can get their own food on ponds, they are very undemanding to eat. Since ancient times, people are willingly engaged in breeding this bird at home. The meat of ducks is juicy, the fat content depends on the breed.

Ducks, whose breeds were created by artificial selection, are divided into several types:

• Meat;
• General user;
• Egg-laying.

Basically, in the household plots, the first two types of birds are bred.

Duck breeds

Today, many species of domestic ducks are introduced all over the world, among them there are very old breeds that have existed for many decades and even centuries. And there are young, modern, recently created, still little-known, but very promising breeds. For many fans of poultry breeding, they are still a novelty.

Peking duck

Ducks of breed bred in China more than three centuries ago are the most common meat type. She has a wide elongated torso, slightly elevated. The chest is convex, the tail is raised and the wings close to the body are tight. Strong and low legs have an orange-red color. White plumage is favorably highlighted by a yellowish cream color. Droplets have a live weight of about 4 kg, ducks are slightly smaller - 3.5 kg. Ducklings after seven weeks from the moment of birth already weigh three kilograms. The bird has become ubiquitous.

Muscovy duck

The breed belongs to the meat-eating type. It was first introduced in Latin America. Ducks of breed from far lands have perfectly got accustomed and in our edges. They have a wide elongated body and strong long wings. On the head there are a lot of pinkish-red warts.

The name is due to the fact that during the breeding season the spleen exude a strong musky smell. Beautiful motley plumage includes almost all colors - from white to black with all their shades. When flying well, ducks barely make any sound except low hiss. They have a calm character. Drains on average have a weight of 5 kg, ducks - half as much. The meat they have is very tasty, tender, juicy, reminiscent of game. In Russia were imported in the 80s of last century from Germany.

Other breeds of ducks: mulard

It is a hybrid that is obtained by crossing musk and Peking ducks. Breed in France. Refers to the meat type. Ducks mulord breeds are ideal for breeding in private household plots, as they have a very fast increase in live weight. For three months of fattening the drake reaches 4 kg, with further contents it can gain weight up to 7 kg. Birds of this breed eat no more than ordinary ducks, and grow much faster. Mulards combined the best qualities of the two original rocks and have practically no flaws.
