"Duck Hunt": a brief analysis. "Duck hunting" Vampilov

Consider one well-known play, we will analyze it. "Duck hunting" (Vampilov AV) was created in the period from 1965 to 1967. This time was in the life of the playwright extremely important, critical, saturated and bright. There was his birth as an artist. At this time, I fully felt my own poetic power of Vampilov ("Duck Hunt"). The analysis, summarized in this article, will help you better understand this difficult to perceive play.

Three layers in the work

The work is complex, original, its structure is sophisticated. It's a play in memories. Acceptance of their use as a special form of dramatic narrative in the 60s was very common. Of the three layers consists, as analysis shows, "Duck Hunt" (Vampilov): a real layer, memories and an intermediate, boundary - a layer of visions.

In the reservoir of memories, there are several rather strenuous plot lines. The main character starts an affair with a girl who falls in love with him. Having discovered treason, the wife leaves. When, it seems, nothing prevents Zilov from reuniting with his young lover, he suddenly gets drunk and scandals, insulting the girl and his friends.

In parallel, another story develops. Zilov gets a new apartment. He "reduces" his former girlfriend to his boss. This girl at the same time has a romance with another friend of Zilov. The main character at work has troubles - he slipped a lime report to his superiors. He was betrayed by a fellow worker, escaping responsibility for what he had done. As you can see, this layer is full of events. Nevertheless, he has no special drama in himself.

Extraordinary variety of everyday details of the plot of memories. The hero dies of his father, whom he had not seen for a long time, his wife Zilov is an affair with his former classmate. Finally, the protagonist dreams of duck hunting.

Another layer of action - a layer of visions of the hero, who estimates how his colleagues, friends, girlfriends will react to the news of his death. At first he imagines it to himself, and then it seems inevitable to him. This layer consists of 2 interludes. Their text, except for two or three phrases, almost completely coincides verbally. Nevertheless, according to the emotional sign, they are completely opposite. In the first case, the scene of death that the hero imagines is comic in nature, and in the second in her tone, in the mood there is not a shadow of a smile. Drama, thus, develops between a half-joking idea to commit suicide, which is inspired by the "original" gift of Kuzakov and Sayapin, and an attempt to implement this plan seriously.

Confessional character of the play

Let's continue the analysis. "Duck Hunting" (Vampilov) is a work that has a confessional character. The work is constructed as a confession, lasting throughout the play. She presents in a retrospective sequence the life of the hero - starting from the events of two months ago and ending today. The conflict in the work is not external, but internal - moral, lyrical. Tragedy increases as the hero's memories and awareness in the present approach in time.

Memories of Zilov constitute a complete, comprehensive, integral picture. They lack a causal relationship, despite their coherence. They are motivated by external impulses.

Main character

The main character is Viktor Zilov in the play "Duck Hunting" (Vampilov). The analysis of the work is largely based on the worldview of this hero. We see the events of the play precisely through the prism of Zilov's memories. Many of them occur in 1.5 months of his life. The apogee of them is the funeral wreath, which friends presented to the "hero of his time" who "died prematurely" at work.

Remarks

The author's position in the work is expressed through the remarks. For drama it's traditional. Vampilov's remarks are quite common. They make a quality accent, as, for example, in the case of Irina: in the heroine, the main feature is sincerity. Remarks indicate to the director how to interpret this or that hero.

The role of dialogues in the expression of the author's position

The analysis of A. Vampilov's play "Duck Hunting" would be incomplete if we did not notice the importance of the dialogues. They also traced the author's attitude to the characters. Evaluation characteristics here gives mainly Zilov. This cynic and unpredictable frivolous citizen is allowed much, as was allowed at all times by jesters. Over Zilov, for no reason joke and laugh even the closest friends, and sometimes very evil. His surroundings feel different feelings for this hero, but not friendly. This is jealousy, hatred, envy. And Victor deserved them exactly as much as everyone can deserve.

Mask of Zilov

When Zilov is asked by guests what he likes most, he does not know what to answer. However, friends (like the state, party, society) know better than him - most of all, Zilov loves hunting. One artistic detail emphasizes the tragi-comic situation (such details abound in the whole play). Until the end of memories, Zilov does not take off his hunting supplies like a mask. The leitmotif of the mask in the work of this author appears in the "Duck Hunt" not for the first time. We see a similar method in earlier plays ("History with a Metranager", "The Elder Son"). Vampilov characters often resort to labels, as hanging them free from thoughts and the need for decision-making.

Duck hunting in the life of the main character

For Victor, duck hunting is the embodiment of freedom and dreams. It is collected already a month before the cherished day and hunting awaits as the beginning of a new life, deliverance, a respite period. On the one hand, this is an introduction to nature, which is so valuable to modern man. At the same time, hunting is one of the most monstrous symbols of murder, which does not take culture into account. This is a murder, legalized by civilization, which is elevated to the rank of entertainment, and respectable. The double essence of hunting is the initiation to a pure, eternal natural principle, purification through it, and murder is realized in the play. All action permeates the theme of death.

For Zilov, hunting is the only moment in the life of the spirit. This is an opportunity to break away from everyday life, everyday life, fuss, laziness, lies, which he can not overcome without help. This is the world of an ideal dream, high and not compromised anywhere. In this world, his poor, bad, self-effacing soul is well, it straightens and comes to life, merging into a bright and unified harmony with all living things.

Vampilov so builds the action of the play, that the conductor of Zilov, his constant companion in this world is the waiter. His figure deprives the sense, high poetry, purity of the utopia of Zilov.

"Heroes of his time"

The work we are interested in tells us about the values of the "thaw" generation, or rather, about their disintegration. We will analyze Vampilov's play "Duck Hunt" from the point of view of the characters. The tragicomic existence of the heroes of the work - Sayapin, Gali, Kushak, Kuzakova, Vera - speaks of their insecurity and the fragility of the surrounding reality, seemingly a certain society forever. In the system of characters there is no division into positive and negative. There is Dima, confident in himself, Zilov, suffering from the injustice of life, calling Vera and Kushak, who is in eternal fear. There are people who are unhappy, whose lives for some reason did not work out.

Carrying out the analysis of the play "Duck Hunt" by Vampilov, one should take into account the personality of the author. Vampilov - the last romanticist of Soviet drama of the Soviet period. He was formed as a person in the second half of the 50's. At this time, the goals, slogans, ideals, aspirations of society, which in themselves are completely humane, seemed to begin to unite with real life, to gain meaning and weight in it. Vampilov worked when the processes of disengagement of values proclaimed everywhere and in real life began in the society. The terrible thing was not that the meaning of ideals was destroyed in this way, but in the fact that the meaning of morality as such was destroyed. Vampilov was the son of the time that gave him birth. He longed to know where to go, how he lived, how to live. He needed to give answers to these questions to himself, and he was the first of the playwrights to see that life had come to the last line. And behind her, these questions do not already have the usual answer.

Vampilov is a master of open finals. Analysis of Vampilov's play "Duck Hunting" shows that this work also ends in a mixed way. We never know, the main character in the last scene laughs or cries.

True Time

We are accustomed to using the expression "truth of character", implying that what the writer did not falsify in anything, did not hide anything, depicted a certain social type that was actually formed. Reading the play, created by Alexander Vampilov ("Duck Hunt"), analyzing it, you can feel pity for a man whose "truth" was too defenseless. As a rule, talk about morality is boring. The author of the work was not able to be boring. All his plays, including "Duck Hunting", are characterized by the tension of the inner world of the protagonist. The work makes us think about life itself, not just about art and literature. The author wanted to understand the basic laws called the truth of time. We note one more thought, completing the analysis. "Duck Hunt" (Vampilov) - a work that spawned the rhythm of time. He lives inside, and not outside each of us, so the emergence of the "heroes of his time" is natural.

This concludes the analysis of Vampilov's play "Duck Hunting". A short work - and so much sense! Talk about this play can be quite a long time, revealing more and more of its features.
