Diseases of garden shrubs: white coating on gooseberry

If you planted on your garden plot a luxurious bush of gooseberries, you need to provide him with proper care. One regular watering, of course, a little, you also need to carefully monitor that it does not show signs of a bacterial or fungal disease. One of these obvious symptoms of lesion is the deformation and yellowing of the leaves, as well as a white coating on the gooseberry. This plant is prone to the same parasites and diseases as the currant. Only it is worth noting that the degree of its defeat is usually stronger, and infection spreads through the bush much faster. If you do not take the necessary measures in time, you can not just stay without a crop, but also completely destroy the bush.

If in the early spring white shoots are found on young leaves and apex shoots, the shoots on the gooseberry become curved and gradually dry out, then it is more likely that the bush was affected by so-called American powdery mildew. Also black, white and red currants are susceptible to this phytoinfection. But, of course, most of all it suffers all the same gooseberry plant. As the disease develops, a red patch will appear on the fruit formations of the bush, it covers the stems and leaves, leading to their withering away. The felt cover of the leaves will acquire a dirty white shade. Powdery mildew inevitably leads to the death of the plant.

The most common white coating on gooseberry is found during prolonged overcast and rainy weather. It is at high humidity that the disease progresses and affects all the new parts of the bush. In the heat and prolonged drought, the development of this fungal infection is suspended and receded into the background. The causative agent of powdery mildew in the cold season spends in fallen leaves and fruits or on the plant itself. And from the beginning of the new season, as soon as new sprouts begin to appear, gardeners and truck farmers will again inevitably find a white coating on gooseberry.

Destroy the pathogenic phytogrub is very difficult, since it hibernates not only in plant remains, but also on the live shoots themselves. First, it is necessary to buy young seedlings not in bazaars from their hands, but in specialized nurseries and shops that have phytosanitary control certificates and quality certificates. Secondly, it is necessary to constantly carry out preventive work. So, the most common way to prevent the development of the disease is scalding the bush. In spring, the tops of the plant are copiously sprinkled with hot water heated to a temperature of 90 degrees. In the case when the external parasites on gooseberries have already manifested themselves, it is necessary to urgently remove the pruned parts of the shrub by the pruner. All cut material is taken out of the garden and completely burned. In the autumn time, all fallen fruit and leaves are scraped out from under the plant.

If the site has already been noted outbreaks of powdery mildew, then it is necessary to perform the following actions. Before flowering, the bush is treated with a solution of colloidal sulfur: per gram - 4 grams of substance. In the second half of the summer it is not recommended to introduce nitrogen fertilizers into the soil, but phosphorus and potash fertilizers will be very useful, they will bring tangible benefits and strengthen the plant's immunity. Copper sulphate against powdery mildew in 1% concentration has perfectly proved itself.
