Disc protrusion, its types, diagnosis, causes and treatment

Disc protrusion is a disease of the spine, in which one of the intervertebral discs is displaced from its place and extruded beyond the spinal column. Protrusion, as a rule, is accompanied by sufficiently intense pains, which tend to become weaker as the disease progresses.

The development of disc protrusion is possible in any of the spine sections, however, the most dangerous is the protrusion of the cervical spine, due to the small thickness and narrowness of the spinal canal in this department.

The reasons for the development of protrusions can be many. That is why it is so important to know them all and to eliminate them as far as possible. The most common cause of the disease is osteochondrosis of the spine. No less dangerous in this respect is osteoporosis. Favorable conditions for the development of protrusions create any trauma and damage to the spine, including its curvature, trauma and micro-injury (microtrauma occurs, as a rule, when you try to move or lift a heavy object), birth trauma or spinal anomalies that occurred during the intrauterine period . The risk of protrusion is also in the case of a sedentary lifestyle, and this disease can develop in old age.

It should be noted that the protrusion of the disc is often confused with another disease of the spine - intervertebral hernia. Although these diseases are similar, there are significant differences between them, and the treatment should be completely different. That is why it is so important to be able to recognize the first symptoms of the disease - a neglected disc protector can lead to disability of the patient.

So, in the first stage of protrusion, when the disk is destroyed by 2/3, the disease can be identified by acute, local pain, the cause of which is the appearance of cracks in the fibrous ring.

In the second stage, the protrusion of the disc delivers even more unpleasant sensations to the patient - due to the strong dislocation of the intervertebral disk, the pain becomes more and more intense.

In the third stage, not only severe local pains are observed, but numbness of the hands and feet, as well as disturbance of dynamics.

In addition to these symptoms, the protrusion of the disc may be accompanied by such unpleasant symptoms as headaches and neck pains, dizziness, shoulder pain, hearing and vision impairment.

In spite of the fact that protrusion itself is a very unpleasant disease, its variety, the dorsal protrusion of the disc, is much more painful and dangerous. Dorsal protrusion of the disc is characterized by posterior protrusion of the disc - protrusion directed toward the spinal canal. Damage to the structures of this channel leads to very unpleasant consequences: pain syndrome, sensory and motor disorders, as well as violations of internal organs.

But this is not the worst thing. Even more dangerous is the subspecies of dorsal protrusions - diffuse protrusion of the disc. With her, the intervertebral disc protrudes also toward the spinal canal, but it is uneven - diffusely. This disease has a tendency to chronic current. May lead to disability of the patient. If the diffuse protrusion of the disc is not treated on time, intervertebral hernia may develop in its place .

The treatment of any protrusion of the disc is a complex and time-consuming process. Unfortunately, there is no medicine that can cure this disease, therefore, protrusion treatment is a whole complex of procedures. First and foremost, doctors identify and eliminate the cause of the disease, and after that the patient is prescribed medicines and a set of procedures.

Of the procedures a good effect is provided by acupuncture, acupressure, vaccum-therapy and hirudotherapy. With dorsal protrusion, a set of therapeutic exercises is prescribed, physiotherapy, manual therapy. With diffuse protrusion, the main task of doctors is to unload the affected area of the spine.

Considerable importance is due to proper nutrition, and reasonable physical activity.

A good result is also given by some folk remedies - such as compresses made from alcohol tincture on garlic or Kalanchoe. You can also wipe the ice, and then wrap up the dumb limbs.
