What determines the color of sperm in men

Sperm is a set of products that produce six male sex hormones . It is secreted by ejaculation in the form of a non-uniform, cloudy liquid with a slight chlorine odor. The color of the sperm in a healthy person is usually white with a grayish hue, but there may be other shades of it - milky or yellowish.

It is known that this liquid is viscous enough and transparent. Its main volume is in the seminal fluid, which contains carbohydrates, proteins, hormones, vitamins and other substances. Milk shade is given to it by spermatozoa - carriers of heredity data, which make up only five percent of the amount of semen. Thus, the color of sperm, including transparency, depends on the number of spermatozoa in it. Therefore, a change in normal color can become a matter of concern for men, since abnormality often indicates the presence of some kind of disease.

First of all, the color of the seminal fluid depends on what kind of lifestyle a man leads. If he uses some medicines, in particular, antibiotics or vitamins, then he may have a yellowish semen color.

Also, some foods containing artificial or natural dyes may change the shade. For example, the use of beets in large quantities contributes to the acquisition of ejaculate reddish color.

Moreover, sexual activity of a person plays an important role here. After prolonged abstinence, sperm can acquire a yellowish tinge, and if several sexual acts have been committed during the day, it may become more transparent. Also, with active intercourse, microtrauma can occur in the urethra, as a result of which blood from the capillaries enters the seminal fluid and gives it a pink color. This phenomenon usually occurs after a few days, but if the reddish color of the sperm persists for a long time, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

But not always a change in the color of the ejaculate is connected with the causes of harmless, sometimes it can indicate the presence of some disease. Therefore, if there is any doubt, it is recommended that you urgently call on the andrologist or urologist and pass such an analysis as spermogram. This study allows, examining, including the color of sperm, to identify possible health problems.

Let's consider some examples. Thus, a transparent replaceable fluid may indicate azoospermia (male infertility), a red or pink shade - hemospermia (inflammation of the urethra or prostate gland), and a greenish color - the presence of infection in the prostate, scrotum or seminal vesicles, as well as the presence of STDs. If there is a dark color - it can be inflammation of the testicle or the vas deferens, and in some cases, prostate cancer.

Thus, the normal color of the sperm is white-gray, milky, sometimes yellowish. Any deviation can be caused by various reasons, so do not delay the visit to the urologist.
