Deontey Wilder is a champion who knows no defeats

To date, the only world champion in heavyweight boxing among professionals from Americans is Deontey Wilder. This man has a unique record: in 37 battles he scored 36 early victories. But he has no defeats. It's hard to believe, but a few years ago the athlete did not consider boxing as the goal of his life.

Brief biographical note

Deontey Wilder was born on October 22, 1985 in the city of Tuscaloosa, located in the US state of Alabama. After finishing high school in 2004, the young man wanted to become either an American football player or a basketball player. But in view of the fact that in 2005 he had a daughter, Neya, who had serious problems with the spine, he had to concentrate completely on a much more financially attractive sport - boxing.

Career in amateurs

Deontey Wilder started training in the boxing hall in the autumn of 2005 and after a couple of years he was able to reach a high enough level. In 2007, he won a prestigious tournament called "Golden Gloves". At the same time on the way to the championship, he won against the world champion among the Cadets Thomas Isaiah. Also, Deontey won the US amateur championship.

In February 2008, the boxer arrived in Novosibirsk, where he became participants in a match between the boxing teams of the United States and Russia. The performance was unsuccessful, as he lost to Eugene Romanov a technical knockout. But already at the next tournament, which was held between the national teams of the Russian Federation and the United States, Deontey Wilder was able to defeat the very experienced Rahim Chakhkiev, who later became the Olympic champion of Beijing.

By the way, the American himself at the same Olympics became a bronze medalist, having lost in the semifinals to Clemento Russo with a score of 7: 1. After that, Wilder decided to go to the professionals.

Career in the pros

The professional debut of the boxer fell on November 15, 2008. On that day, Wilder Deonte knocked out Ethan Cox in the second round. After that, the Bronze Bomber (the nickname of an American) in eight bouts in a row won with a knockout in the first round.

In October 2010, Deontey was first knocked down in a fight with his countryman Harold Sconers. But in the end, Wilder sent his opponent four times to canvas and won by technical knockout.

The first title

December 15, 2012 Wilder Deontey fought with undefeated at the time Kelvin Price. At stake was the title of continental champion in the WBC version. The first two three minutes were fairly calm and measured. Both fighters conducted reconnaissance. However, already in the third round Deontey right cross knocked out an opponent.

Duel with Belarusians

August 9, 2013 Wilder Deontey, whose fights caused the audience a huge interest, met in the square of the ring with former world champion WBO Sergei Lyakhovich.

The beginning of the battle was very cautious, the athletes were boxing at a long distance. But in the middle of the round the American struck the right and forced the Belarusians to retreat to the ropes, followed by another blow, which sent Liakhovich to the deepest knockout. Sergei spent so long on the floor of the ring that the doctors even brought out a stretcher, which, fortunately, was not eventually used.

The battle for the belt of the world champion

In January 2015, Wilder boxed with Bermein Stiver, who at that time owned the WBC belt. The battle began with a hard exchange of blows, in which the American looked better. Several times the Canadian was close to knockdown, but still survived and did not fall. Eventually the fight lasted all the 12 rounds, after which the judges unanimously decided to win Deonteu. For the first time in his career, he could not knock out his opponent. In addition, almost the entire fight Wilder boxed with an injured right hand.

Duel with compatriot

July 16, 2016 the battle of "Deontey Wilder - Arreola" took place. In this confrontation, the Bronze Bomber took possession of the undisputed advantage from the very beginning and in the fourth round sent Chris to a knockdown. The second half of the fight showed that Areola more and more missed the blows, and in the end after the 8th round Chris refused to continue the fight.

After this voluntary defense of the title it became known that the champion was injured in the hand and, most likely, before the end of the calendar year will not enter the ring.
