Demodectic eyelids

Even if carefully to look after the eyes, unfortunately, the disease can come suddenly. Demodectic eyelid is a skin disease, the causative agent of which is acne vulgaris - a conditionally pathogenic tick, as it is also called, ciliary. Inhabits the causative agent of demodicosis in the hair follicles, in the depths of meibomian and sebaceous glands. Most often the ciliate mite is located on the skin of the eyelids and faces, mainly in the chin, nasolabial folds and on the superciliary arches. The products of vital activity of this pathogen are strong allergens and serve as a frequent cause of seborrhea on the face, and in case of localization of the tick on the eyelids, blepharoconjunctivitis and demodectic blepharitis appear.

Demodectic eyelids have a chronic form with periods of exacerbation in the fall and spring. In the group at risk of his appearance are people with weakened immunity, with any metabolic disorders in the body. In children, demodectic eyelids can develop as a consequence of lung and gastrointestinal diseases in chronic form and with farsightedness.

Symptoms and course

Diagnosis of demodicosis of the eyelids is very simple, just a visual inspection. Characteristic signs of the presence of the disease are the defeat of the eyelids: a characteristic coating is observed along their margin, the eyelashes are surrounded by muff-shaped crusts and at the same time stick together. In the anamnesis there is a loss of eyelashes and frequent barley, acne and psoriasis, which periodically recur. The eyelids are swollen with demodicosis, there is an unpleasant permanent itching and an unremitting fatigue of the eyes.

How to cure demodicosis

The treatment is quite long and effective with all the measures of personal hygiene, as the possibility of repeated self-infection is high. The first stage of treatment of this unpleasant disease is cleansing the skin of eyelids and eyelashes with alcoholic tinctures of eucalyptus and marigold from all available crusts. This procedure is carried out twice with an interval of at least 15 minutes in the morning and evening before bedtime. After cleansing, the ointment "Demalon" should be applied to the edges of the eyelids. If other sites are affected, they must also be treated in the same way. Due to the fact that the products of the life-activity of the ciliated tick are strong allergens, for the removal of allergic reactions apply the ointment "prenacid" (for one week grease the eyelids twice a day) or use drugs containing microdoses of corticosteroids (up to 8 times a day) . When complicating demodicosis with purulent blepharitis or blepharoconjunctivitis, eye drops or "Eubetal-antibiotic" or "Kolbiozin" ointment are used 4 times a day for 10 days. Simultaneously with drug treatment, it is recommended to perform physiotherapeutic procedures to achieve a quick and lasting effect: a course of 10 procedures every other day or daily ozonotherapy, eyelid massage or magnetotherapy. In addition to local treatment of demodicosis, mandatory treatment of all existing concomitant diseases: chronic gastroduodenitis, pancreatitis and cholecystitis, intestinal dysbacteriosis, lung diseases and gastrointestinal tract. With refractive pathology, a correction is necessary, regardless of the age of the patient. In the absence of concomitant diseases, it is recommended to normalize the metabolism in the body and use drugs to improve immunity.

Treatment of demodicosis with folk remedies:

- make compresses from garlic (ground mush);

- lotion from decals of elecampane 2 times a day;

- lotion from the ground bark of the buckthorn;

- You can use various collections inside (plantain, tansy, mint, string, nettle), make herbs and insist, then drink 2 months half a glass a day.

To prevent the recurrence of demodicosis, personal hygiene measures must be carefully followed. When washing, use products containing antibacterial components. All personal items in contact with the skin should be regularly treated with disinfectants. For the period of treatment and some time after recovery, it is necessary to abandon the use of cosmetics.
