"DDT": discography, theme songs and the history of the group

In the summer of 1980 an unnamed collective formed in Ufa, who rehearsed at the local DK and played the songs of Western bands such as The Rolling Stones and Beatles. With the arrival of his only permanent member Yuri Shevchuk in the team, the band began to play and even tried to record their own compositions.

Briefly about the group "DDT": discography, history, subjects

The group "DDT" is one of the most popular and influential Russian rock bands. As a part of the group, both small and absolutely cardinal changes occurred that led to the fact that only the author of words and music, the main vocalist and ideological inspirer Yuri Shevchuk, remained from the original participants in "DDT". The group has 20 albums to date.

Fans love the creativity of musicians for their fidelity to their ideals, deep lyrics and variety of themes in the songs of "DDT". The discography of the group mostly consists of compositions on political and social themes, but such lyrical compositions as "It's All", "Autumn", "Snowstorm" and "Last Autumn" have long been fond of the public.

The Soviet period

Ufa was far from Leningrad, where at the time of the formation of the group "DDT" was the most live rock party, so young Ufa rockers did not dare to write their own songs for a long time, arguing on the possibility of the existence of rock music in Russian. In the 82nd, two years after the formation of the ensemble under the direction of Gennady Rodin, the musicians recorded eight compositions of their own composition. In the same year, the group participated in the contest "Golden Cameron", which won with the song "Do not shoot." After the victory, the participants decided to acquire a more memorable name and chose the familiar three letters - "DDT". The discography of the young rockers at the time consisted of seven songs recorded on film of poor quality at home.

The main prize of the contest was the recording of the ensemble at the Soviet sound recording studio "Melody". However, having arrived in Leningrad for recording, Shevchuk found out that the condition of the contract was the execution of not his own songs, but those that were approved by the "party". The musician refused, and the group "DDT" left the underground, where she spent the entire Soviet period of her history.

During this time the composition of the collective has completely changed: the group moved first to Moscow, and then to Leningrad, where only Shevchuk remained from all the members of the collective. During this period, the records of the first albums of "DDT" were broken several times, however, the social theme of the songs, their poetry, melodiousness and sincerity ensured the band's popularity among fans of the underground scene. All-Union glory "DDT" was in the days of glasnost, when their performance was first shown on the central television channel.

The Russian period

By the time of the collapse of the USSR, DDT was one of the most popular rock bands in the country. Discography of the band by 1991 consisted of seven albums, the first of which was never published. In the nineties the collective underwent the most significant changes in the history of the existence of "DDT". The band from the underground suddenly went out into the mainstream, the theme of the songs changed, turning from purely social and acute political to philosophical and lyrical, while the composition of the group was more or less stable. Also in the nineties "DDT" actively participates in social concerts and other projects. In fact, the period of perestroika made "DDT" the way the whole country knows and loves them today.

However, the group was not ready for the style of life of rock stars and the scheme of the work of the young Russian music industry. Already in the late 90's, when not only Russian but also foreign music became widely available, "DDT" again went to the so-called underground. Again, the theme of the songs changed, becoming more acute, the themes of war and faith were added. However, "DDT" still does not cease to participate in social projects, and not only musical projects.

Theme of songs

The rich history of the group is reflected in the music of "DDT". The songs of musicians, at least the majority, reveal the main themes of Yury Shevchuk's creativity, among which:

  • Political: "Counterrevolution", "Perestroika", etc.
  • Social: "Homeland", "Presentiment of Civil War", "Truth to Truth".
  • Philosophical: "Wind", "Crows in the sky", "It's all", "Freedom".
  • Lyrical: "Actress Spring", "Evening", "Rain", "Autumn".
  • Love: "Love", "Blizzard", "Far far away," "Tell me how you loved."
  • Military: Live, Do not Shoot, Whistle, Talking in War.
  • Religious: "Christmas", "Temple".

Also the author of the texts "DDT" often affects in his work the beloved city of St. Petersburg, which considers native - an attitude clearly visible in the music of "DDT". Songs "Peter", "Leningrad", "What is Autumn" and the whole album "Black Dog Petersburg" are dedicated to the city, which in the mid 80's became a home for the group.

Music

Music is always associated with freedom and truth, says Yuri Shevchuk, the permanent songwriter of "DDT". The discography of the group is a direct proof of this. "DDT" is a group that, in its twenty albums, promotes freedom of thought, peace and justice even now, when against the background of global pop culture these words seem to be beaten, empty and meaningless.

Such social and political events as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the USSR, the war in Chechnya, the bombing of Yugoslavia and many others were reflected in the music of "DDT". The albums of the collective go to the present day and are extremely popular not only among the old admirers, but also among the youth. Critics evaluate the work of "DDT" as the music of those few people who do not care.
