Youth

Kotsyubinsky Daniil Alexandrovich was born in Leningrad (present-day St. Petersburg) in January 1965 in the family of a famous psychiatrist, who was a doctor of medical sciences and a professor, Alexander Petrovich Kotsyubinsky.

Danya in 1983 graduated from the local Leningrad school, where he studied quite well. After receiving secondary education, he did not immediately go to college, as many of his peers did, but decided to pay his duty to the Motherland in the ranks of the armed forces. He served in the Group of Soviet Forces in the GDR. He was demobilized in 1985.

After passing the emergency service, Daniil Kotsiubynsky immediately entered the historical faculty of Leningrad State Pedagogical University named after Herzen in Leningrad. In 1989, he successfully graduated from this university on the specialization "History".

The beginning of a professional career

But Daniil Kotsiubynsky did not become a history teacher or a research fellow, since he decided to start his career in journalism, but, in truth, taking into account his professional specialization. Since 1990, he began to work as editor of the section of history in the magazine "Smena".

With his duties Kotsyubynsky cope pretty well, as evidenced by the fact that this workplace, he worked for three years.

In 1993, our hero moves to work in the weekly, in which he becomes a political observer. Here he worked until 1999 inclusive. At the same time, in 1998, he, Daniil Alexandrovich, became one of the editors-in-chief of Komar. In 1999, he became a political observer of the newspaper Delo. In the last two editions Kotsyubinsky worked until 2000.

Scientific activity

At the same time, Daniel Kotsiubynsky does not break with scientific activity. In 1992 he became an assistant to the Department of History of Russia of the university where he received higher education. Only now it is called not the Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute (LGPI), but the Russian State Pedagogical University named after Herzen. Taught Kotsyubinsky in this school until 1998.

In the same year, 1998, he became a candidate of historical sciences, defending a thesis on the topic of the All-Russian National Union of 1907-1917. Kotsiubynsky decides to concentrate on journalistic activities and therefore leaves work in the university.

After a long break in teaching in 2009, Daniil moved to the Smolny Institute of Free Arts and Sciences, which has the status of the Faculty of St. Petersburg State University, the department of interdisciplinary synthesis. There Kotsyubinsky works as a senior lecturer to the present.

Continuation of journalistic activities

In parallel with the scientific work, Daniil Alexandrovich continued to engage in journalism. In 2000 he worked in the magazine "Expert-North-West", as a political columnist. At the same time, he is the lead author of some analytical programs on the TV channel "Petersburg". He led such well-known programs in St. Petersburg as "Right of Veto", "The History of One City", "Inform-TV", "Evening of a Difficult Day". In the same year, 2000, Daniil Alexandrovich became the best journalist as the winner of the largest St. Petersburg award "Golden Pen", awarded by the Union of Journalists of St. Petersburg, of which he was a member.

In 2003, Kotsyubinsky moved to the post of editor of the famous newspaper "Petersburg Line". However, he did not work there for long, since already in 2004 he returned to the newspaper "Delo", in which he worked in the late 90's, but this time as deputy editor-in-chief.

In 2007, Daniil Alexandrovich was elected a member of the board of the Union of Journalists of St. Petersburg.

At the very end of 2008, Kotsiubynsky left the Delo edition, since, as mentioned above, he began working at the Smolny Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Nevertheless, he continues to be a member of the board of the Union of Journalists. He leaves this organization in 2010 because of disagreement with the actions of its leader Andrei Konstantinov.

In addition, Kotsyubinsky is the author of radio plays, which are devoted to the Russian history of the early XX century.

Political activity

Public activity of Daniel Kotsyubynsky began with the fact that he became the head of the Association of SMEs in St. Petersburg. He held this post from 2005 to 2008. In this public position, Kotsiubynsky, he said, faced a lot of cases of injustice of the authorities in relation to private entrepreneurship. This prompted him, and before that differed in opposition views, to active political activity.

Kotsyubinsky becomes a participant in various March of Dissent, which was conducted by the opposition in St. Petersburg. During one of these events, he was even detained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in November 2007.

But Kotsyubinsky did not leave opposition activities even after leaving Yabloko. In 2010, Daniel Alexandrovich became one of those who signed a public appeal of the opposition under the slogan "Putin must leave."

Kotsyubinsky, as a historian, initiated the celebration of the anniversary celebration in 2011 of the 400th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg. He was motivated by the fact that in fact the city was founded not by Peter I, but by Swedes in 1611 as the fortress of Nyenskans at the mouth of the Okhta river. In addition, he created an initiative group that called on the public to review the history of the region.

In 2012, Kotsyubinsky made an even sharper statement in the article "What will happen after Russia?", Expressing the opinion that St. Petersburg and its surroundings will become an independent state and join the European Union.
