Cycisener sticks - what is it? Set of colored counting sticks for children

George Kuiisener worked in the Belgian school as a primary school teacher. His invention was didactic material, which developed in children mathematical abilities. His tutorial in 1952 appeared in the form of the book Numbers and Colors.

Every modern parent wants the child to be able to count and write from an early age. There is a huge number of games and adaptations that help children actively develop. One of these means is the sticks of Cuisener. What is this - our article will tell.

Characteristics of counting materials

Cusuener's wands are multicolored parallelepipeds, which are made of wood or plastic. They can be from 1 to 10 centimeters in length. Their length shows the value of the numbers. The shortest counting material corresponds to one, the stick is 2 times longer - the deuce and so on.

A palette of similar shades combines wands into classes, or families. Pink material means 2, red - 4, and burgundy - 8. All these rods can be combined according to the multiplicity factor 2. Since these products are only 10, 5 classes or families are obtained.

A set of 116 sticks is the easiest. It includes:

  • 25 white;
  • 20 pink;
  • 16 blue,
  • 12 red;
  • 10 yellow;
  • 9 violet;
  • 8 black;
  • 7 burgundy;
  • 5 blue;
  • 4 orange sticks.

The age category of children engaged in these sticks is from 1 to 7 years.

Playing with children

Games with sticks Cuisenar can be carried out with children from a year and older. They can easily replace the designer or mosaic children.

At the very beginning the child can simply take them in hand and consider. Such an examination helps children develop fine motor skills of their fingers and visual perception. You can alternately show your wands, make the following comments:

  • A stick of white color is short;
  • A stick of red color is long, etc.

The child can be explained about the sticks of Cuisenar (what is it) through a fairy tale. Construct a fence of sticks of the same color, using the tale "Three Little Pigs", to tell that the fence of white in one pig is small, the other has a red fence bigger, and the third one has a brown, longest and tallest one.

Account Training

Thanks to these subjects we learn to count with children. At the initial stage, you can also use fairy-tale characters that will help the child learn the basics of the account. There is a whole list of activities that develop numeracy skills in children:

  1. Laying out sticks by color and length.
  2. Initially, move a certain amount of enumeration material to yourself and ask the child to repeat these actions for you.
  3. Place the items in a row of different colors and ask them to remember which sticks are there, then let it turn away, and remove one. When the child turns, he must answer what is not.
  4. You can mix the counting material and ask your child to arrange them according to the color, calling each color.
  5. Using the longest wand, ask the child to measure the length of the chair, bed or table.
  6. Gather a figure from them and give the task to do the same.
  7. You can ask children with their eyes closed to find sticks of equal length.
  8. Find out if your kid can tell how much one item is longer than the other.
  9. Give him the task to choose from the pile of sticks short and longest.

Thanks to these tasks the child will learn to count within ten.

Storage of these items

Cusuener sticks are usually stored in a special box or bag. The most advantageous option will be a box with compartments into which you can put each item separately. You can turn collecting countable items into a game when parents ask the child to put neatly each wand in their house.

Familiarizing children with a set of bills

We already found out about Cuisener's wands. What it is - you can perfectly understand from joint activities with your child. The initial preparatory stage is the grouping of objects by color features and the construction of various structures. To help the child identify all the properties in comparison, the teacher or parent should offer the children the following:

  • Find and show the same objects by color or length;
  • Select all blue, red or white sticks;
  • Select one object of certain colors;
  • Tell about the color of each stick present on the table;
  • Paint the ball in the same color as the wand.

These tasks help to identify all the colors that your child can distinguish. If the child can not remember any shade, you can show the various objects that surround it, and say the names of the colors. Also, when teaching children the size, it is necessary to say which rod is long (short or long). Such training will be easily given to kids.

Building a staircase

Ladders of various sizes are built by children. Studies with sticks of Cuisenaire are accompanied by their examination and study of the features of these subjects. Such design helps them determine that objects of the same tone have the same length, and vice versa. The ladder teaches children to master the consistent dependence of the length of materials.

We diversify our classes

Blocks of Gyenes and wands of Cuisander are the best assistants in teaching children counting manipulations. These blocks are made in the form of different shapes. They have a multi-colored color. With their help, children acquire initial knowledge of geometry. Children's motor skills develop very well thanks to the activities with these blocks.

Block datasets consist of 48 geometric shapes:

  • There is a circle, a square, a rectangle and a triangle;
  • Three colors: red, yellow and blue;
  • The figures are large and small;
  • Thick figures and thin.

In this set there is not a single identical figure.

Quantitative representations in children

Cusuener's wands are excellent helpers for teaching children the concepts of color-number ratio and vice versa. It is necessary to fix the name of the number and color of the child. You can invite the kid to find a wand of a certain size and ask what color it is. Many teachers suggest that the children put a numerical ladder. Depending on the age of the child, the exercises are complicated. Children can build from these objects various carpets. They give the task to build a carpet of sticks of different colors or sizes, to perform some kind of pattern, etc.

When the guys already know the colors and the number of sticks that they designate, you can build a numerical ladder with them. When the children master the construction of such a ladder, you can practice in the ordinal and quantitative terms, they begin to call adjacent numbers.

When we learn to count with children, they understand that each number is greater than the previous one by 1. This can be checked by rearranging the wand at number one above or below the step of the numerical ladder.

A huge assortment of assignments can be devised for these sticks. Not only the drawing up of different figures and the construction of ladders, but also whole design systems can be made up of them.

Nowadays, innovative materials are used to make such sets, which do not harm children and their parents. Wands of Cuisenaire: what it is - we hope you learned by reading this article. The prices for them are quite affordable for all segments of the population. Children love to study with them for a long time, learning many useful things that will help them in the future.
