Cultivation of garlic as a business: business plan, ways and features of technology. Cultivation of garlic on an industrial scale

Owners of summer cottages by definition have several more opportunities to organize a home business. You can, for example, not only engage in gardening or growing fruits and vegetables, but also start pets. Although, of course, the care of animals, many summer residents and beginners prefer plant cultivation. This is not only a less laborious undertaking, the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, besides, it does not require so much financial investment and constant (daily) control, and it pays back more quickly.

One of the good ideas for business is the cultivation of garlic.

Land plot

Cultivation of garlic on an industrial scale assumes the availability of a land plot of about twenty hundred square meters (a minimum of 10 x 20 meters is required). Perfectly suitable for organizing a small business dacha site, but in his absence land for agricultural needs can be rented. When searching for a suitable place, it is worth giving preference to sandy loamy soils or lands like chernozem, which are the most fertile and allow growing a really high-quality crop.

Rent a land within the Moscow region, of course, is too expensive for a beginner entrepreneur. So, the plot (twenty hundred) near the metro station "Rechnoy Vokzal" will cost 185 thousand rubles a month, i.e. in a year it will be necessary to pay more than two million just for rent. In the Smolensk region, for example, the lease of a similar site will be only 20 thousand rubles per month, or 240 thousand per year.

Type and grade of garlic

After identifying with the land for planting, you should pay attention to the choice of type and grade of garlic and purchase of planting material. Cultivation of garlic as a business ideally involves the sale of large quantities of product with a long shelf life, in addition, it is desirable to receive large bulbs and denticles - this product is more quickly realized. But each type has its own advantages and disadvantages:

  1. Growing spring garlic allows you to get a product with a long shelf life, but a small size of bulbs and denticles, in addition, you can face low yield.

  2. Growing winter garlic as a business is more profitable, as it allows to achieve high yields and large sizes of bulbs, but such garlic is poorly preserved, there is a risk of freezing.

With regard to varieties, it is best to consider the following for the organization of business:

  1. Lyubasha. It differs by its unpretentiousness to weather conditions and good keeping (duration of storage), frost-hardy.

  2. Ukrainian violet and white. Garlic is very well preserved, the yield is about two hundred kilograms from one hundredth of the earth.

  3. Savior. The variety is perfectly preserved, resistant to diseases and parasites. The yield of garlic is equal to twenty tons of product per hectare.

  4. The Kharkov purple. Frost-resistant and relatively resistant to disease, the yield of garlic is average - you can get about one hundred and twenty kilograms of product from a hundred of land.

  5. Gulliver. The medium-late variety, which is distinguished by high yield, sharp taste and long shelf life (up to eight months).

  6. Benefit. Adapts to various climatic conditions, differs frost resistance, lezhkost (it is stored till ten months).

Planting material

Growing garlic as a business will require purchasing a batch of planting material. For sowing twenty hectare it will take up to a thousand cloves of garlic. So, with an average weight of one tooth in 15-20 grams (Lubasha variety), you need to buy about twenty kilograms of garlic, which will cost only 2,200 rubles. At calculations the wholesale price of a landing material (110 rubles / kg) was considered.

Machinery, equipment and workers

Cultivation of garlic on an industrial scale, of course, requires the involvement of agricultural machinery, since sowing twenty hectares independently is quite labor-intensive. So, you can rent a tractor is not a period of active work. It is not entirely advisable to acquire the same equipment for full personal use. In addition, you need shovels, rakes and watering cans.

The constant staff of workers cultivation of garlic as a business does not require. During the planting and harvesting period, it is possible to attract local pensioners, schoolchildren or unemployed for a small fee.

Growth Technology

Garlic, the methods of growing which differ somewhat depending on the type, as a whole is not very exacting in care. Planting of spring is made in April - first half of May, winter - in late September - early October. The first type must be planted in the furrows fairly tightly: between the teeth should be left about ten centimeters, and between the rows - fifteen to twenty. For winter garlic, the distance should be ten to twelve centimeters between the denticles and about thirty between the rows.

Planting material - garlic (growing and care in the open ground is described in detail in the review) - it is necessary to disinfect immediately before planting. To do this, prepare two solutions:

  1. Six tablespoons of ordinary table salt per ten liters of water.

  2. One tablespoon (or three teaspoonfuls) of copper sulphate for the same amount of pure water.

In the first composition the planting material should be lowered for one and a half to two minutes, in the second - for a minute. After that, you can start planting, but do not need to rinse the garlic with clean water.

Care is the periodic weeding of beds (if necessary) and timely watering. Winter garlic for autumn is better covered with spruce branches, dry foliage or special material. In spring, remove all unnecessary from the beds. In addition, in the spring period, plants can be fed urea, from time to time (twice a month), garlic should be fertilized. With the active growth of arrows, it is better to pinch them - so garlic, growing and care in the open ground behind which there are no special problems, grows larger.

Harvesting takes place in the middle of July (for winter crops) or late August (for spring garlic). After you need to cut the garlic, rinse and dry the product in natural conditions (under a light canopy in the fresh air) for at least a week. Ready-to-sell goods should be stored in wooden boxes in a well-ventilated room.

Tips and Tricks

The peculiarities of growing garlic are known to every summer resident who has ever encountered this plant:

  • Garlic does not like excessive moisture, so watering should be dosed;

  • A good amount of sunlight affects the yield;

  • It is better to plant the plant on the beds where cabbage, pumpkin and beans used to grow;

  • For top dressing it is preferable to use wood ash.

In general, growing garlic is not such a complicated process. And if you follow the technology, fertilize the beds in time and follow the plants, you can expect abundant harvests.

Harvesting

Organize sales, if we consider the cultivation of garlic as a business, is most profitable at once to the end user, that is, at retail. Wholesale buyers can be:

  • Public catering establishments (small lots);

  • Pharmaceutical companies;

  • Canneries and meat processing enterprises;

  • Vegetable dealers and retail outlets (small wholesale);

  • Large retail chains.

Promotion and development

Growing garlic as a business involves the search for wholesale customers. So, you can advertise in local newspapers, gardening magazines, online catalogs. In retail, they are often sold to acquaintances and neighbors, after advertising is based on the principle of "word of mouth". Promotion of goods on the Internet, which became an effective method of increasing sales in modern realities, is inappropriate for this business. You can develop the business either by increasing the volumes or by replacing the product - it is beneficial to grow parsley, onions, strawberries, and other crops.

Start-up capital

So, summarizing all of the above, we can say that a small business in growing garlic for the purpose of further product realization does not require significant financial investments. It will only be required:

  • To rent a plot of land (take into account the area of twenty hectare), which will cost an average of two hundred and forty thousand rubles a year;

  • Purchase planting stock in the required quantity, the cost of which is up to three thousand rubles;

  • Purchase shovels, watering cans, rakes and other equipment and enlist the help of several workers;

  • Pay for the water used to water the beds, and buy fertilizers, fertilizing.

So, the organization of the business of growing and selling garlic at first requires ten to one hundred thousand rubles.

Return on business

From twenty acres of land you can collect four tons of garlic (sort: Ukrainian white and purple) or more - depending on the growing conditions, variety and other nuances. At a wholesale price of one hundred and ten rubles per kilogram, the revenue for the entire product will be four hundred and forty thousand rubles. The business will pay off in just one season.

If you organize retail sales, you can earn even more: from one million two hundred thousand rubles. True, selling four tons of product at retail is not so simple. So, the business plan for growing garlic with a reasonable approach from the entrepreneur has all the chances for successful implementation and obtaining high profits.
