Correct pruning of raspberries in the garden and its importance for the future harvest

No, probably no one who does not like the sweet and juicy fruits of such a useful berry bushes, like raspberries. For this reason, this useful plant is grown on almost every private plot, as many amateur gardeners seek to provide themselves with medicinal berries not only for summer, but also for winter, making a delicious raspberry jam. However, as in any case, raspberries have their own tricks and secrets, among which an important place is given to such an annual operation as pruning raspberries.

First of all, you should know that raspberries are a perennial berry bushes, on which the growth sprouts grow every year, which yield the next year. Actually on them the ovaries of the berries are formed, on the number of which our harvest depends. After fruiting, in autumn all the old shoots should be cut at the very base and removed from the garden area, because they can be the causative agents of various plant diseases. During the whole vegetative period (from early spring to summer), about 6-10 such substitution shoots can grow in a common bush, which must necessarily be weeded out by removing weak and broken branches. Remember that the correct pruning of raspberries is the key to the success of the future harvest.

A real revolution in the crimson farm produced the scientific discovery of Sobolev, the famous crimson horticulturist, who in the late 1980s published his double trimming method, thanks to which he managed to harvest up to 150 kg of berries from 4 hectare of land. His secret was just that competent cutting of raspberries made it possible to achieve additional appearance of lateral shoots of replacement, which the next year as a result of repeated pruning give a lot of ovaries on each bush.

So, tell everything in order. In spring, when young shoots stretch out approximately 70-90 cm (usually this happens in late May or early June, depending on the cultivation region of the crop), they should pinch the top 10-15 cm. After that, the growth of shoots almost completely ceases, And all the life force of the bush will be thrown into the side shoots. Such pruning of raspberries in the spring will be very useful, since for the summer on the bush there are up to six additional shoots that can grow up to 60-70 cm. In this form, the plants leave for wintering and, if necessary, they must be pinned to the ground, Or organic material, so that the shoots do not freeze. This is especially important for the middle and northern strip of our country, where severe winters and severe frosts can significantly reduce the future crop by freezing young branches. Here it is important to take into account also one circumstance: all lateral shoots over the summer must be well ripened, otherwise they will definitely freeze out. It is for this reason that pruning raspberries should be done in early spring, so that young growths can grow stronger and stiffen before the onset of cold weather.

In the spring of the next year, when the first leaves are blossoming on the plant, all fruiting shoots should be pinched at 5-10 cm, which will stimulate the awakening of sleeping buds, which will give additional twigs with a large number of ovaries of the future harvest. As a result of this cunning agrotechnical manipulation, the raspberry harvest can be obtained throughout the second half of the summer and even in September. If pruning raspberries is done in this way (double pruning), then many common varieties of this berry buster acquire the properties of raspberry raspberry and bear fruit a second time.

Thus, the important discovery of the scientist Sobolev allowed not only specialists - "magpies", but also all lovers of this remarkable culture to annually receive a stable harvest of medicinal and delicious berries. When growing a crop in this way, pruning raspberries in autumn is also done, but here only the escaped shoots are removed. If you want to thin the bush, due to its neglect, then this operation should be left until the spring. Be healthy and have a good harvest to you!
