From the history of the city

On the territory of modern Krasnodar, the first settlements appeared in the III century BC. Until now, archaeologists have found traces of ancient sites on this land.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Krasnaya str., 1)

This magnificent temple has a complex and long history, like many religious buildings in our country. It was built according to the project of famous Kuban architects - Elisei and Ivan Chernik (brothers), who were educated at the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg.

The cathedral was laid in the early spring of 1853. The consecration took place only nineteen years later (in 1872). The reason for this is the Crimean War and the lack of funds for construction. For believers, this cathedral became the embodiment of greatness and beauty. This is a true masterpiece of the temple architecture of the Byzantine-Russian style. A clear plan of the cross (equilateral) and five domes, crowned with gilded crosses, rich interior decoration amazed the parishioners. Particularly admired was the porcelain iconostasis with gilded stucco molding. It was the first stone church in Ekaterinodar.

Many of the popular sights of Krasnodar, the description of which you can find in this article, have been repeatedly destroyed over a long history. This cathedral did not escape the sad fate. In Soviet times, the temple was closed (1929) and barbarously looted. Some time in its premises there was a museum of atheism to them. JV Stalin. The main temple of the Kuban diocese, located at: ul. Kommunarov, 52, is one of the largest in the country. At first it was the church of St. Catherine, built in 1814 thanks to the help of Archpriest Cyril of Rossinsky. For a long time she was in the subordination of the Resurrection Cathedral. In it, services for the clergy took place.

In 1888, the royal train derailed from Yekaterinburg. By a lucky chance, none of the sovereign's family was hurt. On this occasion, it was decided to build a great cathedral in the city with seven thrones. Construction work began in 1900, but they repeatedly stopped because of a lack of funds. Fourteen years later (1914), the main throne was consecrated.

In the thirties, the cathedral was turned into a warehouse. He even tried to disassemble the building material. Nevertheless, in the terrible year of 1942, services began to be held in it, despite the fact that there was at that time a military warehouse.

In 1985, a large-scale reconstruction of the mural painting of the interior of the cathedral was carried out, the openwork wrought-iron gates in the style of the old Ekaterinodar were installed. Today the temple works, it hosts divine services and festive liturgies.

The former City Council (23 Krasnaya Street)

Monument to Catherine II

The monument, located in Catherine Square, was opened in 1907, but the Bolsheviks destroyed it in 1920. The project of the composition was developed by the famous artist and sculptor M. Mikeshin in 1895. The author's sudden death did not allow him to complete his work. Continued its sculptor B. Edwards.

A new monument was created by the Kuban sculptor, A. Apollonov, who used photographs of the destroyed structure, drawings and archival documents. The monument was cast in the workshop of the Russian State University, architectural and sculptural attributes were produced at the Krasnodar compressor plant.

The Empress looks majestic, she is dressed in royal porphyry. In her hands, Catherine holds a scepter and a power. During the Civil War, Denikin's army headquarters were here, after the revolution it was turned into a sanitary unit. Still later, the local branch of the NKVD was stationed in the halls of the mansion.

The city authorities decided to restore the historic building in 2006. Two years later it was recognized as the best restoration object in Russia.

Philharmonic Society (Krasnaya str., 55)

Cultural attractions of the city of Krasnodar is represented by the city philharmonic society. It is located in the heart of the city. This is one of the largest concert venues in the south of Russia, which has enormous creative potential.

The Philharmonic Hall occupies a beautiful three-story mansion, built in 1909 by the famous architect F.O. Shekhtel. It was founded in 1939. In the late seventies of the last century, with the Philharmonic of Krasnodar, the concert activity of the famous Kuban Cossack choir known far beyond our country was restored . Memorial to the Victims of Fascism (Pervomaisky Park)

The most important sights of Krasnodar, according to local residents, are monuments and memorials dedicated to the warriors and victims of the Second World War. This memorial is located in Chistyakivsky grove, in the most visited by the townspeople and tourists the green zone of the city.

Oceanarium (Sadovaya st., 6)

Krasnodar: unusual sights

Yes, original compositions can also be seen in this southern city. Attractions in Krasnodar sometimes surprise even those who have seen many amazing constructions of tourists.

Two lovers of dogs, located at the intersection of the streets of Mira and Krasnaya, are one of such objects. The creation of such an unusual monument of the architect V. Pchelina inspired the story of V. Mayakovsky "Sobachkina life."

The unusual monument was opened in September 2007. According to the idea of the author, two dogs, dressed in human clothes, met at the intersection of two streets (Mira and Krasnaya) on their first date.

Monument to the purse

This construction was a copy of the monument, located in Melbourne near the shopping center. Local residents say that the purse should be crouched or rubbed about it with your purse. Probably, the miraculous effect of the purse has been checked repeatedly, as evidenced by its polished surface. The city authorities jokingly call the monument a symbol of the city budget.
