Cities of the Kursk region: Kursk, Zheleznogorsk, Kurchatov, Lgov, Shchigry

  • The Cathedral of the Sign.

This majestic structure was conceived as a kind of monument created in honor of the victory of the Russian troops in the Patriotic War of 1812. In his appearance, there are traces of the classicism that prevailed in architecture for the period of construction of this structure in 1816-1826. At the beginning of the new millennium, the Znamensky temple, which for most of the 20th century was used as a cinema, was restored, in the course of which its interior was restored to the utmost accuracy.

  • Church of the Virgin Mary.

A Catholic church in the Neo-Gothic style appeared in Kursk in 1896 and immediately became one of its ornaments. He is notable for the fact that the famous painter Kazimir Malevich was married and baptized there. For many years the building of the church was used as an anti-religious museum, but at the end of the 20th century it was returned to the Catholic community.

  • Complex «Kurskaya arc».

The city went down in history thanks to the famous battle that took place on the territory of the region during the Second World War. In memory of him in the post-war period, many structures and monuments were erected in Kursk: the Triumphal Arch, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the monument to G. Zhukov, the stele "City of Military Glory", the alley of military equipment and the Church of St. George the Victorious.

  • Resurrection temple.

The church, built in the second half of the 19th century, has an original architectural look that makes it look more like a small palace. It is richly decorated outside, but, unfortunately, from the old interior decoration at the moment nothing remains, as the temple for a long time was in desolation.

Zheleznogorsk (Kursk Oblast)

This relatively young settlement was founded in 1957 as a working village. Graduating is the enterprise of OAO Mikhailovsky GOK, which employs more than 30% of the local population. Zheleznogorsk can not boast of ancient sights, like other cities of the Kursk region, which are not one hundred years old. However, there is a very interesting museum of local lore, located at: ul. Rylsk

This is one of the most ancient cities of the Kursk region, in which many buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries were preserved, including a complex of Nikolayev Monastery buildings and shopping arcades. The main decoration of the city is the Assumption Cathedral (Sverdlov Str., 7), the construction of which was started in 1797. Fortunately, it practically did not suffer during the war, although from the 30s to the early 90s, its building was used for economic purposes. At the beginning of the new millennium, the church began to rebuild, and in 2011 its clock was installed on its tower.

The town of Rylsk, Kursk region, is also famous for the fact that there are preserved several monuments of civil architecture known as the Shemyaki House. Two of the three buildings are connected by an underground passage and date back to 1740-1760. It is believed that they lived in the Rila Voivod and housed his office.
