Gardeners are constantly in a position to find new ideas and previously not open to themselves plants that can decorate flower beds and flower beds. Growing already tested and loved flowers, all the time I want to plant something new. And if you are not yet familiar with such a wonderful flower as cineraria, then be sure to pay attention to it. This beautiful representative of the flora is able to make from your flower bed a real masterpiece of horticultural art.

Cineraria

This plant comes from tropical Africa. It can be planted not only as a horticultural culture, but also as an indoor flower. In open ground, cineraria is grown as an annual crop. The most popular species include the following:

  • Cineraria "bloody";
  • Cineraria "silvery" ("seaside");
  • Cineraria "hybrid";
  • Cineraria "exquisite".

All kinds of this plant, except for cineraria "silvery", very beautifully bloom. Therefore, this flower is widely used for decorating flower beds, garden paths and front gardens. In addition, the plant is very compact: in height it reaches only fifty centimeters, because it is used as a curb. It is very convenient to grow cineraria in containers, put them on flower beds for the summer period, and bring them to a warm place with the arrival of cold weather. Thus, you will save yourself from the annual planting of seedlings. Very beautiful plant looks not only in pots, but also in bouquets. In addition, the cut flowers of the cineraria stand long enough in the water and do not wilt.

Cineraria "silvery"

Planting and caring for this plant does not require special wisdom. Cineraria "silvery" blooms, but these flowers are very plain. This plant is highly valued due to unusually beautiful ash-silver leaves. Because of this amazing color of stems, it is widely used to compose landscape compositions. Most often, the "silvery" cineraria is planted to shade the beauty of other, brighter colors, such as canna, sage silver, pelargonium, etc.

Cineraria: planting and care

Despite the fact that the flower is unpretentious in cultivation, it is worth paying attention to certain nuances. The basic requirement is a suitable soil. It should be light, slightly alkaline or neutral. Cineraria "silvery" feels better in well-lit areas, but other species prefer partial shade or diffuse light.

If you decide to grow such a wonderful flower, as cineraria (planting and care are not difficult), pay attention to watering. The plant is demanding of moisture, but it does not tolerate waterlogged soils. Cineraria should be watered daily, however in very moderate amounts. Consider that the earth should be slightly moist at all times. Even during flowering, the plant should be fed with mineral fertilizers. So, the bushes will be magnificent, and the flowers will please you with their abundance. There are no more wisdoms. It should be noted that the plant is thermophilic, and only the cineraria "bloody" can withstand the frost to minus two degrees Celsius.

Diseases and pests

The plant is quite resistant to various diseases and pests, so this will not cause any special trouble. The only thing if there are plants near by, infected with phytophthora, then this misfortune can spread to cineraria. Process infected bushes follows the same drugs (fungicides) as the tomatoes. Also, the affected leaflets should be removed. If the whole bush is infected, then, unfortunately, it is necessary to cut it completely, so that the disease does not pass to other flowers. If we talk about pests, then most of the cineraria is susceptible to attack by aphids. To destroy insects use 0.1% solution of the "Pirimor". Despite some unpleasant surprises, do not give up growing such a plant as cineraria. Landing and leaving will not take much energy.

Cultivation

Gardeners and owners of household plots will be interested in the issue of plant reproduction. Planting of cineraria is done by sowing seeds, cuttings or dividing the bush. If we talk about cuttings, it should be taken into account that in this way only the "silvery" cineraria is planted. All other species are very poorly cuttings.

Any species can be propagated by dividing the uterine bush. But it's safer to sow - the cineraria from the seeds will give the best result. This has already been tested by many gardeners.

Sowing of cineraria is best done in April. To do this, prepare containers with heated soil. Then gently sow the seeds, sprinkle them with a thin layer of earth. You can put glass on top, so the seeds will be warmed up better and, accordingly, will ascend earlier. After the plant has two real leaves, the seedlings should be dived and transplanted into separate containers. In late May - early June, young seedlings must be planted in open ground. Flowering occurs 80-90 days after sowing seeds.

When planting flowers it is necessary to maintain the interval between seedlings of 45-60 centimeters. In the first weeks should carefully monitor the moisture content of the soil, not allowing the drying of the earth. Another point: the soil before planting must be carefully prepared. To do this, prepare a mixture of sand, peat and humus. If there is no desire to germinate the flower in advance, then it is possible to sow the seeds directly into the soil. It is better to spend it in the middle of May, but keep in mind that the plant sprouts long enough. And flowering can move back for a month and a half.

Application of cineraria in medicine

In addition to the fact that this plant is very beautiful, it is still used as a homeopathic remedy for the treatment of many eye diseases. So, it perfectly helps with corneal opacification and cataract. For this, it is necessary to instill for a few months 4-5 drops of Cineraria broth into each eye. The plant well helps with traumatic lesions of the organs of vision.

Each gardener should grow on his plot such a plant as cineraria. Planting and caring for it is not so difficult, and beautiful flowers will please you all summer.
