Catching on ultralight: technology, bait, rigging. Ultralight spinning Shimano ("Shimano")

All of us know the expression: "Small, yes remote." Today it is very useful, because our conversation will be about this kind of spinning fishing, like ultralight. Let's figure out how catching on the ultralight deserved such popularity and what is its uniqueness.

What is ultralight

Ultralight, or, as it is shortly called, UL, is literally translated as "ultralight". Belonging to UL is determined primarily by spinning and bait. The rod should have an upper limit of the test not more than 7-8 grams. It would be logical to think that if the bait has a weight in the same limit, then you can safely write on it UL. But this is not entirely true, because a 10-centimeter wobblers can have a weight of 8 grams, and this is a completely different fishing. Therefore, to "ultralight" you can still add "ultra-small".

Why Ultralight

This kind of fishing usually comes in two ways. The first one is satiety, when you are tired of catching huge amounts of a bloodthirsty large predator and you want something more refined, exciting and complicated. The second way is vice versa, the absence of catches for more conventional gear. When a large number of anglers are on the pond, or the fish is too capricious, or the pond is small, ultralight can be a good way to fish.

Spinning

As already mentioned, the rod should have an upper limit of the test not more than eight grams. The most popular in our latitudes are the models with a test of 0.8-3 g and 1-5 g. The first are used for catching the turntables No. 00 and No. 0, and the latter for the wobblers and small jig. As for the length of the rod, everything is not so important here, as in any other kind of fishing, the fishing rod can have different lengths. Nevertheless, too long UL, as a rule, do not apply, since they have no practical advantages. Thus, the greatest popularity was obtained by spinning lengths from 1.6 to 2.4 meters. Those that are shorter work well on streams, and longer ones are good for catching from a boat or in places free of vegetation.

These UL-rods are quite expensive. A good "Japanese" or "American" will cost the fisher from 100 to 500 dollars. For novice anglers or those who do not want to spend extra money, there are options and cheaper: for example, ultralight spinning "Shimano" will cost about 500 dollars. At the same time, it works no worse than eminent competitors.

Of course, there are rods for 10-20 dollars, but they are considered "pseudo UL". Roughly speaking, such specimens are made from a lightweight rod (with a test of up to 25 grams), which is peeled off the top (15-20 cm) and another one is glued in its place - a monolithic carbon fiber, up to 40 cm long. It is these fishing rods that are sold at the lowest Prices. Budget ultra-light is too heavy compared to more expensive specimens, and for thin lines it is not good. But in principle, you can start with such "sticks".

Coil

Catching on ultralight involves the use of light coils. The first requirement for a coil is the sufficient capacity of the spool. In the rest everything depends on the budget and personal preferences. Since the fishing lines are thin, the usual "thousandman" is enough. However, if fishing goes on a wide pond, and there is a chance to catch a large prey, then the line is thicker and more genuine, which means that you may need a "two thousand".

The power of the coil in the ultralight is not particularly important, since the line is likely to break, than the coil mechanism will get an extra load. As for the multipliers, they are only suitable for "heavy UL". The fact is that even the most expensive and well-tuned multiplier can not normally throw baits weighing up to 5 grams. The coils of lightweight materials, which perfectly balance the light spinning, are not bad at all. Only now the price of such masterpieces is too painful.

Catching on ultralight requires that the coil has a good friction with fine adjustment. Professionals recommend a front brake, as it is more finely tuned. A good budget option, with a good friction, is the Shimano Stradic GTM 1000, which is distinguished by its durability and reliability.

Leska

As a rule, when fishing for ultralight, a fishing line with diameters greater than 0.15 mm is rarely used. However, there are cases when you still have to put and thicker fishing lines or cords. When a large strong fish acts as a prospective prey, for example, asp or salmon, and fishing is conducted on light fishing rods, then the line width of 0.15 mm will not be enough. Of course, there are cases when a 5 kg pike is pulled out on a monolayer with a diameter of 0.14, but this is more likely an exception. If there is clear water in the pond, there are no snags and grass, then if you reserve the line, in principle, you can fight any fish. But when around the edge of reeds or driftwood, you need to fight with prey quickly, and with a thick fishing line. Thus, it can be concluded that the thickness of the line is not the determining factor in ultralight fishing. It all depends on what kind of prey the fisherman is aiming at. However, one should take into account the fact that a soft UL-rod is better to extinguish fish jerks than a hard one, so you can take a line slightly thinner.

Monolisque or braided?

This question arises in front of everyone who decided to learn what ultralight fishing is. A cord with a diameter of 0.06 withstands approximately the same load as a fishing line with a diameter of 0.12, and the bait flies with it much better. But the cord has quite a few drawbacks. Firstly, because of zero extensibility, braiding with the cord goes very hard, and, as a consequence, often there are gatherings. Secondly, the cord is often confused in the beard, especially when rafting along the river. Third, he quickly rubs himself against the stones. Well, the last drawback - the cord is more visible to the fish, rather than monoscales. Someone will think the last argument at all and not an argument, they say, when in fishing fish fishing is considered a line? However, there are situations when you have to keep the bait almost motionless and play along only with the tip of the spinning. In this case, especially when pure water and not "bezbashennaya" fish, the line is more than noticeable. Nevertheless, many self-respecting anglers use a braid for ultralight. In general, it's a matter of taste. You need to try both.

Ultralight: rating of baits

In the ultralight fishing bait is of particular importance. Perhaps, only when catching a path, bait is also very important, as in our case. If the jig, for example, is more important than the talent of the angler, then in the UL bait and fishing skills play an approximately equally important role. Of course, as in other types of fishing, much depends on the place of fishing, wiring and other things, but to make a small bait work beautifully more difficult than doing the same with a heavy lure. A small bait should look and work perfectly, and it does not necessarily have to be branded. The UL kit is practically the same as the standard spinning set. It consists of:

1. Rotors (with a front load or with a rod sinker).

2. Wobble (ordinary or with variable thickness).

3. Wobblers.

4. Jigs.

5. Flies.

6. Popperov.

There are also baits that do not fall under the usual classification, but very well show themselves in practice. Among those can be noted: microsuper torpedo with a propeller, from the company Heddon; Microspinnerbates made on a small-size offset hook ; Compound oscillations; A fly with a propeller on the forearm of the hook; Wobbler beetle and many other unusual baits.

Of course every fisherman has his own set of baits, but there are general recommendations. Beginners in the first place should collect a collection of turntables, oscillators and micro-jigs. Those who intend to hunt for a pike will also be prevented by such ultra-light baits as poppers and wobblers. Wobblers for a pike are not exactly UL, so a couple of baits will be enough, just in case. Those whose prey is trout, it is necessary to stock up, except turntables, special wobblers and flies. Catching grayling ultralight involves the use of flies, since it does not always feed on fish. In general, for each fish and certain conditions, there is a set of baits. Let's analyze what a predator bites in different habitats. The choice of bait, depending on the conditions of fishing, is presented in the table.

Conditions of catching

Type of fish

Baits

Quiet water, with depths from the most minimal, up to 3 meters

Small perch

The catching of the perch on an ultralight under such conditions is considered to be the simplest in terms of choosing the bait. The main contender for success is a turntable with a rod load, but sometimes the front loaders work. All other baits are less catchy. The only thing that is really worth trying is a micro-burn. However, you need a masterful possession of tackle.

Current, and depth up to 3 meters

"Semi-Predators"

(Chub, dace, ide)

Here, turntables with front loading work well. Sometimes weighted flies are also effective. And if the fish is large, you can try the wobblers.

Creek

Grayling and trout

Fishing by ultralight on a small river is considered the most diverse, in terms of choice of baits. Here all types of baits, except for poppers and jigs, proved to be very good. The preloaded turntables work on the pit. Trout fishing with ultralight involves the use of large baits. Unlike trout, the grayling reacts weakly to large baits (wobble and wobblers), but in cold water it can be caught on them. Virtually a win-win option for grayling is catching an ultralight fly or a classic turntable.

Standing water, shallow depths, fishing along vegetation or in windows

Pike

Wolblers, oscillators and poppers are not bad at this point. If the grass is too much, help come popper-nezotseplyayka. They go well on any grass, except for filamentous algae, and they entice a predator. Well, wobblers and oscillators perfectly cope with their task in clean water near the grass.

Windows in grass and cinder

"Semi-predators" (mostly red) and perch

Here you need a jig mounted on a simple jig-head. In this kind of catching, it's important to hit the bait clearly in the window, otherwise you will have an annoying hook.

Thresholds

Salmon (large trout, trout)

Large, relatively heavy lures: wobblers, rifles and turntables. And the efficiency of oscillators and wobblers depends on the need to do long-distance casting. The further casting - the more chances they have. Well, turntables need heavy, with a rear load.

Depth more than 4 meters

Any predator

There is a jig. Here fishing is on the verge between UL and Light. The fact is that at a depth of more than six meters, it's hard to cope with a jig easier than 5 grams. By the way, besides jig, at depths up to 4 meters, you can try and "front" turntables.

Experimenting with a new (for you) bait, and especially with a new kind of baits, try the novelty in fishing for different prey. Here it is necessary to discard all prejudices and just to check that he loves fish. Do not give up even those baits that seem not at all promising. Fishing always needs experiments.

Bait on spinning fishing is an expendable material. But some of them are very expensive. Therefore, it is worth taking care of a solid installation. Many recommend using a winter buckle. It is very easy to use and compact enough to not affect the game of bait. It is worth giving preference to fasteners made of thick and rigid wire.

Fishing techniques

Ultralight was originally developed for small ponds and rivers. Such fishing should be as objective as possible. Having decided with a promising place, it is worthwhile to catch it for several minutes. If for 5-10 minutes, the fish did not react to your efforts, and the bait is chosen well, you need to look for the next place. If you are still confident that the extraction is in one place or another and do not want to leave it, try not to make your wiring as fast.

Carrying out the first cast, try not to frighten off the predator, but to attract it. To do this, you need to carefully send the bait near the fish stand. During the wiring you need, if possible, periodically change its horizon. This is done with the help of various manipulations with the rod. Catching the ultralight predator can also be carried out by area. This method is especially relevant for fishing at high water level. In this case, the main thing is to hold the bait as close as possible to the bottom.

These are general recommendations, the rest depends on the type of fish that you intend to catch, its habits, conditions of catching and bait.

A little philosophy

Ultralight fishing is practiced by those who are not interested in "flood the shore with blood", catch a bag of fish and leave. It does not go to "repulse" money for tackles or a pond (if it is paid). Typically, the fishermen who switched to such fishing, profess two principles. The first one sounds like "Catch - let go", and the second one: "It is better to have one meaningful fish than a whole catching tank accidentally". UL-fishermen not only release fish into its natural environment, but also treat it very carefully. Ultralight is not so much fishing, as a way to relax and feel your connection with nature. To subdue such subtle gear and understand how they work, you need to "eat a pood of salt" on the spinning fishing. Therefore, not all are adherents of the ultralight. It is a private matter for everyone to agree with such determinations or not. But one thing is worth knowing exactly: too much extraction of UL will not bring.

Conclusion

So, we have become acquainted with such an exciting kind of fishing, as ultralight. As a "dry residue" remember the main thing. In this fishing in everything and everywhere there should be lightness: an easy rod, a light reel and the same baits. In addition, bait should also be small. The thickness of the line is of no fundamental importance - it all depends on the size of the desired fish. However, given the elasticity of the tackle, you can take the fishing line a little thinner than under all other similar conditions with a heavier rod. The coil for ultralight must have a friction with fine tuning. The technique of fishing and picking up lures depend on the pond and fish that the fisherman intends to catch. In general, ultralight lures are not much different from other spinning baits.

Do not think that ultralight is the lot of the rich. Here, as in any other kind of fishing, there are tackles on any purse. Normal, for example, a reel and spinning "Shimano", you can buy for quite reasonable money. The same applies to baits, many of which can be made at all.
