Car Chevrolet Camaro, the first generation: specifications and reviews

One of the most effective, attractive and really high-quality old American cars is the Chevrolet Camaro. The first generation was very special. So we should talk about it in more detail.

Briefly about the model

So, the Chevrolet Camaro (first generation) is a cult sports car of American manufacture. It was produced during four incomplete years - from 1966 to 1969. For all time manufacturers have made approximately 700 thousand copies.

The first such car appeared on sale on September 26, 1966. The choice was given two options - a two-door closed compartment and a convertible (also for two doors). Inside, there was a place for four, and the front seats were divided. Another potential buyer was offered a diverse choice of 6-and 8-cylinder power packs that could be driven both by automatics and mechanics. And in December of the same year a car with an original engine, as well as a more powerful reinforced chassis, was released.

But the best car in the history of Chevrolet is the 1969 model. And it's no wonder, after all it is really magnificent in all plans a sports car. No wonder the majority voted for him.

Check for aerodynamics

Cars Chevrolet Camaro (first generation) differ special body. In general, in the process of its development, both aesthetic considerations and aerodynamics were taken into account. It is not for nothing that special experiments were conducted on him. The finished body (though in the size of ¼) was examined in a special wind tunnel. Thanks to this, it was possible to find out what the stability of the rectilinear motion of this machine is, how much power is used to manage to resist the air, and, in general, how much the body is streamlined. Based on the clarified result, the manufacturers improved the machine.

Specificity of construction

What is the body of a Chevrolet Camaro? The first generation is distinguished by a single supporting structure (consists of the central and rear parts), to which the subframe was attached. Still the model has a very powerful bottom. And in order for the hood, roof and doors to be stronger, the manufacturers have developed for them an external panel and a frame itself. Another model was given special channels, which sent air from the windshield to the rapids. Due to this they not only blown, but also dried. Due to such an interesting feature, it was possible to minimize the possibility of rusting.

And the last nuance. All body details specialists covered a special compound, which is an excellent protection against corrosion. In some places, even installed galvanized parts. And the body was painted in three layers with a special enamel, topping it all with acrylic lacquer. So it's no wonder why today models that are more than 45 years old look so fresh and new.

1967

Chevrolet Camaro (first generation), the photo of which is presented below, is very interesting and bright appearance. The 1967 model draws attention to the slightly recessed chrome grille made of black plastic. The company logo flaunts in the middle. Optics also look beautiful - the headlights are round, not large, but not small, with shiny rims. Inside are the front lights.

Behind, everything also looks elegant - rectangular, sparkling edging lights, and solid bumpers with optional canines. Glass, by the way, also had a brilliant edging. By the way, most car enthusiasts of that time ordered a modification with toning.

On the top of the threshold was a molding made of aluminum, and the front wings sparkled with the inscriptions Camaro and L6 (or V8 - depending on which engine thundered under the hood). And still the original highlight is the curved side windows.

Interior

Chevrolet Camaro, photo of which is provided above, differs quite interesting salon. The decoration is really original. First, the salon was decorated with vinyl in four different shades. It could be gold, red, blue or black. Each seat was equipped with belt-belts. A diagonal brachial fit to order. If the buyer wanted and could pay for it in addition, head restraints were installed in the car. In the front seats they were not.

Driving space, by the way, is very ergonomic. This is one of the most striking features of the Chevrolet Camaro. Photos, by the way, clearly demonstrate this. The steering wheel is three-spoke, and on the dashboard - two large indicators with perfectly readable indicators. On the left side there is a speedometer, with the right - a fuel gauge. For an additional fee, put and a tachometer. Below is a radio receiver or a cassette player. Under it, we even put an ashtray. The panel was covered with soft material. This was done for the purpose of safety - in the event of an accident, injuries were prevented.

Naturally, the salon is equipped with everything, than only it was possible to equip it in the late 60's. Windshield wipers (2 speeds), washers, head light, electric window lifters and folding triangular windows - in general, many different adaptations were in the cabin.

1968

In fact, the Chevrolet Camaro, released in 1968, did not differ much from its predecessors. Its main feature is the lack of windows. They were removed, and the side windows became one.

And they also used a new ventilation system called Astro Ventilation. Thanks to her, additional air flows to the cabin were fed through the circular ventilation holes (located on the front panel, on both sides of it). Still experts have transformed the optional console, which was placed between the seats. It was executed under a tree, and additional indexes were designed differently. Now there were four instruments, which were arranged in two rows. Now you could read the data regarding the current, fuel level, coolant temperature and oil. The tachometer was still considered an option.

By the way, there were still parking lights. And the 1968 Chevrolet Camaro model was the one on which the front and rear spoilers were first installed. After that, they acquired such popularity.

1969

And, finally, about cars produced in 1969. After all, they are considered the best. Well, the cars of the late 60's became longer and broader, they found an improved appearance, in which there was clearly a sporting-aggressive character and a light radiator grille with a pronounced kink. In general, the car began to look even more original. Sharp выштамповки, unusual gills, located on the rear wings, lanterns consisting of three small panels, the luggage compartment lighting - in general, the model was well transformed in the visual plan. The volume of the luggage compartment (241 liters) has also been increased. And the car was now painted in 18 colors (1 tone), but you could order it in six different 2-color variations. The upholstery was still made from vinyl. By the way, the salon has now become a tree.

True, those that are - already restored and improved. But this can be understood. Owners themselves claim that the cars went to them not in the best shape, moreover, in most cases they were bought and brought directly from America. Because you had to invest in a legendary machine money and eliminate the breakdown.

As a result, all these cars now look fresh, new, expensive and rich. Salon, suspension, engine, music, body - all this causes true admiration and attracts looks. People who own these machines say that it does not cost cheaply, because if there is any breakdown, the part will be difficult to find. And it will cost not cheap.
