Salad "Iceberg" is a round head, reminiscent of the kind of white cabbage. Its weight reaches one kilogram. This salad with luscious leaves of light greenish color is also called "Crisphead" or "ice mountain".

Salad "Iceberg" has a sweetish taste, thanks to juicy and crispy leaves, it is used both as a base in various dishes, and as an additional component.

The homeland of the salad is California, where local breeders originally called this variety "crunchy." In the early twentieth century, this kind of greenery was exported to other states and was transported with crushed people when transported, after which it was called "Ice Salad", and later - Iceberg salad.

Growing this crispy delicacy is possible without interruption for the whole season. For this purpose, spring plantings are carried out every two weeks, and summer plantings are held at intervals of seven days.

The grades of lettuce "Iceberg" in our country are considered to be early and stable. Seeds are planted in open ground. This culture loves light and moisture, it is usually placed on fertile, well-cultivated and fertilized soils.

Speaking about the benefits of this delicious plant, I want to note the presence of a significant amount of folic acid, which takes an active part in the regulation of the metabolism of the human body, the work of the nervous system and the brain. Salad "Iceberg" is rich in vitamins A, C, B9, and also contains iron and calcium. A large-scale salad is used in a wide variety of diets, it helps to increase the level of hemoglobin, reduce the salt content in the body.

If you want to quickly and tastefully prepare a salad "Iceberg", the recipe is quite simple. Chop the head, add a drop of soy sauce and season with vegetable oil. It will be very tasty.

Like all salads, "Iceberg" is eaten, as a rule, in kind, but thanks to the fact that the head is so crisp, you can even fry it and cook saute with it. We will need:

  • 50 g raisins;
  • Salt (to taste).

Getting Started

At the washed salad we separate the leaves and tear their hands into pieces of medium size. In the oil fry the crushed garlic to a golden hue, then add the prepared salad, a little water and stew under the lid for 15 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and stew for another ten minutes, salting to taste. Salad should not turn dry. If necessary, pour a little water. The prepared dish can be eaten both hot and cold.
