Brothers Strugatsky "Kid": a summary and problems of the work

"Kid" - the story of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky in the genre of science fiction, one of the landmark works of Soviet writers. It was published in 1971 in the journal "Aurora". However, here the expedition members find a broken ship of the Semenov family. Of these, only the child Pierre survived, who was brought up by the space aborigines. The scientists managed to establish contact with the "Little One", after which serious disagreements arose in the group. So, Gennady Komov believes that "Baby" can be used to establish links with the Civilization of the Ark. But Maya Glumova does not accept such interference in the fate of space "Mowgli".

It was not possible to establish contact with the aborigines of the planet. Ultimately, the colonization of the Ark was canceled, and the team of scientists left the planet.

Problems of the story

According to the plot and, in part, the idea of the work is very similar to the "Little Prince" of Exupery. But if you consider this story from the point of view of atmospheric and imagery, then "Baby" has a lot in common with "Dandelion Wine" - a novel by another brilliant science fiction writer of the 20th century, Ray Bradbury.

The Strugatsky brothers, of course, are fantastic, but the science fiction is unusual. Almost each of their work is a whole "tangle" of philosophical problems. Including, and in "Baby" writers put before us a whole series of questions:

• What is man?
• What kind of modern humanity?
• Curiosity - is it good or bad?
• Can a man climb into someone else's garden with his own rules?

"Kid" is a landmark for the Strugatsky work. It is an unusually lively and very professionally described futuristic world. And this description is very organically interwoven with various scientific terms and formulations. All the characters in the book are extremely bright and self-sufficient.

The story raises a lot of questions, but absolutely does not give them any answers. This feature can be considered as a plus, and a minus of the given product.
