Breeds of chickens: their differences and features

The success of poultry breeding in the household depends entirely on the properly chosen breed, which can adapt to the local climatic conditions to the maximum. In addition, each species of bird is bred for its own purposes. The owner of a particular breed of chickens needs to know exactly its useful qualities, in order to create conditions favorable for breeding it.

Chickens of egg breeds

These birds are quite mobile, have a small mass of carcass, light skeleton, dense plumage. The price of an egg from a laying hen depends entirely on its body weight, the smaller it is, the cheaper the product. This is due to the costs of its maintenance.

Eggs of chickens "wear" a characteristic leafy scallop, which has a red swollen appearance due to the influx of blood, and if the laying hen is poor, or the time of molting, it is pale and wrinkled.

The crest of the hen serves as an indicator, it is possible to determine productive deposits on it, if it is developed in a young individual, this indicates its good egg production in the future.

In our country, such breeds of chickens as Russian white, Leygorn are popular, and you can also meet Oryol, Minor, Italian grouse, and others.

Chickens of meat breeds

They are larger in comparison with the laying hens, are well-fed, slightly clumsy, the body is covered with weak plumage. Bear eggs, meat breeds of chickens can, but not so productive - up to one hundred and thirty pieces per year. Sexual maturity comes later, the ability to rush appears on average at seven months of age. In the production of chicken (broilers), the Cornish (Cornish) male and Plymouth female are more often used.

Cornish. This breed can be of different colors: they are white, red, fawn, the first ones are widely spread in our country. Features of this species of chickens are: a wide and short head with a small yellow beak, red ear lobes, a massive trunk with widely set legs, their scallop has a podiform shape.

Plymouthrock. The feathering of this breed of chickens is striped, gray, white, fawn, black and others. The body is oval in shape, the head is medium. The legs are strong, short, yellow in color, like the beak. A characteristic feature of this variety is the incomplete fit of the wing to the body.

Bird of meat-egg direction

At all times people willingly bred a bird in their farmstead. And meat-egg breeds of chickens were especially popular - and an egg in the house, and meat on the table.

This bird, like no other, better adapts to any natural conditions, is more viable, which makes it universal. They have more body weight than laying hens, as well as egg weight, the latter is a compensation of feed costs.

Bright representatives of this species are the Yurlovian voiced chickens. Their origin is unknown, but there is an opinion that they originated in the territory of the modern Lipetsk region. According to experts, in the formation of this breed, fighting cocks took part - this causes relatively long legs, peculiar to them. Coloring is different: silvery black, dark yellow. Such a bird prevails on poultry farms due to its versatility - the ability to produce two products.
