Brake shoes: self-replacing

In order to be sure of the safety of trips, you must always monitor the condition of the brake system of your car. And one of its main components are brake pads. Replacement of these spare parts on all modern cars, both domestic and foreign production should be carried out after every ten thousand kilometers of run. Otherwise, the safety level of trips will drop to zero. Today we will talk about the state of the spare part and how to replace it with our own hands.

What should be qualitative brake pads?

Replacement of these details is made only when the car, when the brake pedal is pressed, starts to squeal and emit a terrible creak. This indicates a poor-quality condition of the friction material - the main component of this part. If such signs are not observed, and the car has a completely permissible stopping distance, this means that it is not required to replace the brake pads (Nissan or VAZ). But still after a while the vehicle starts to brake badly, there is gnashing and other troubles. In this case, you need to immediately repair the car.

Is it possible to replace the rear brake pads (VAZ) with your own hands?

As you know, domestic cars are famous for their simplicity in operation (they can be repaired even in the field), but you can change this spare part yourself not only for owners of VAZs, but for owners of foreign cars, no matter what age of this or that car.

Instruments

So, in order to make this repair, you need to prepare a jack, a balonnik, ticks, and a steel punch for 6-8 centimeters. Only with this set of tools you can independently change the brake pads. Replacement is carried out in several stages. We will analyze each of them:

To begin with, you need to put the car on a flat and dry surface (the main thing is that it is not an overpass) and use a jack to lift the car a few centimeters so that the tire does not come into contact with the road surface. Then you need to take the bolt wrench and unscrew the bolts on the wheel. In this case, do not forget that the vehicle must be on a manual brake or transmission. In the case of an automatic transmission, shift the gearshift lever to the "P" position. Otherwise the car will leave the jack and, possibly, roll downwards (that is why it is necessary to choose a predominantly flat surface). Then, using a brush, it is necessary to clean the caliper from the auto dirt accumulated during operation and unscrew the bolts holding the brake pads. The replacement of this part does not end there. Before it is removed, you need to drain some brake fluid (preferably in a 100-milliliter syringe). After installing new shoes, it should be poured back in the same amount.

New parts should be treated with graphite grease and only then installed in the car. Installation is in the reverse order.
