"Black obelisk" - the legend of the domestic underground

The famous Moscow group "Black Obelisk" was officially formed on August 1, 1986 by Anatoly Krupnov. Prior to that, he participated in the jazz-rock band "Prospekt", but the group soon disintegrated, and on its ruins Anatoly created a new project. The early work of the "Black Obelisk" can be compared to "Black Sabbath": the same dark and heavy atmosphere, which is felt even physically and strongly presses on the psyche. The very first song of the group was the composition "Apocalypse", written by Krupnov, as well as the subsequent songs of the band at the initial stage of development and formation.

Over time, Krupnov became a fan of the works of Baudelaire, Brodsky and Verhaeren, which, of course, affected the lyrics of the new works of the band "The Black Obelisk". However, the gloomy creations of these authors harmoniously intertwined with Krupnov's own poems and the heavy rhymes of the Obelisk. The first concert was given by the collective in September 1986, after which the children were noticed by the Moscow "Rock Laboratory". The group was almost immediately enlisted in the ranks of the organization's participants and began to regularly take part in all the "metal" concerts.

In its original composition, the band did not last long, and in the same 1986 the band left the guitarist, in the place of which Alexis came, who previously played in the band Metal Corrosion. Strangely enough, it was he who became the creative partner of Krupnov and co-author of many songs. The first album "Black Obelisk" was released in December 1986, and he was called "Apocalypse", in honor of the band's first song. The album was recorded "live", as the group did not have the proper equipment. Several copies of this record have survived to this day, however only true lucky ones can boast of their presence.

After the release of the album, the band began to gain popularity. Despite the many changes in the composition, the collective did not break up and continued to delight fans with the characteristic dark music inherent only in the group "The Black Obelisk". The chords of their songs had to be selected by the fans themselves, but now they can be easily found. However, on February 27, 1997, a misfortune happened: the founder of the group Anatoly Krupnov died of a heart attack. But even after that the collective continued to exist, and in 2000 began to cooperate with a group of Sergei Mavrin. The following year, the band performs in clubs with new material, and then releases a full-length album entitled "Ash".

Soon after the start of cooperation with Mavrin "Black Obelisk", the "Energy of the Roads" comes into play, in which he participates in a variety of festivals and concerts. In the summer of 2002, a grandiose event was to take place, both in the life of the group and within the framework of the Russian metal scene. An international festival of famous rock bands such as "Uriah Heep", "Sodom", "Doro", "Gamma Ray", "Primal Fear" and others was to be held in Moscow. However, unfortunately, the organizers could not finish the business, and the festival did not take place.

The presentation of the album "Ashes" was held in 2003 in the Moscow club. In the summer of the same year, the band begins writing new material, which is included in the next full-length album entitled "Nerves." To date, the band can please fans with the release of a new single "Up!", The sound of which is always above all praise. This collective rightly bears the title of "Legends of Russian Rock" due to extraordinary music and truly deep and philosophical lyrics.
